WA-style support in Portugal?

I'm wondering if any wise MNers can help?

I've got a dear friend in Portugal who is having a crisis today with her cheating OH - she's asked him to leave after discovering incriminating emails from the OW (and has sent them to her solicitor) and he's getting nasty and threatening.

She's 69 and her 90ish year old mother lives in the house - the mother is obviously vulnerable and I'm concerned for both of them.

She's got the phone number for the local police on her mobile but I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any support helplines that she could call?

She should get in contact with APAV.

Not sure they do emergency calls.

Otherwise do ring the police. Although who goes to her could be a lottery.

Is she British?

Lueji · 23/03/2013 13:30

The problem with the police is that they can't arrest, unless caught in action, without a warrant.

But it would be best to ring 112 if he does get violent.

apav.pt/apav_v2/index.php/pt/apav-2/contactos-onde-estamos
for regional contacts

After a quick search
She can ring 144 for emergencies
And:
For info: 800 202 148 - 24 hours a day

Lueji · 23/03/2013 14:12

And UMAR (they support victims, including through a shelter) - 808 200 175.

Many thanks! I'll pass the info onto her now. And yes, she is British.

I assume she speaks Portuguese too, but PM me if she needs help with the language.

I really appreciate the support - thank you both so much. I've given her the info via FB. Apparently he's all packed and leaving in the morning - I just hope he keeps out of her way this evening.

I don't mind slushy. :)

Fingers crossed too.
Not sure I could help in any other way at all.

By the way, she should lock bedroom doors if she is worried and have a charged phone with her at all times.

CatelynStark · 23/03/2013 18:41

She does speak Portuguese, I've checked - and she's got all of the numbers on her phone which she's keeping tight hold of. Fingers crossed that all will go smoothly. Thanks again :)
