My mother hates my ExP, as do I to be honest. She has been texting him to arrange contact on my behalf because its just easier that way.

He has been seeing DS (2.9) a day a week for almost 10 months, and he wants overnights. My family have all been telling me not to let him etc etc so I havent so far.

Yesterday he had DS, and asked for him overnight. I said yes, so DS is currently with his father.

I now have to tell my mother I have agreed to fornightly overnights, and I know she is going to be mad...

I don't know how to tell her..

It's your child, not your mothers. So the final say is yours. BUT, she (and others) have warned you against it for a reason presumably? So let's hope they were just being overprotective...

Is there a reason for no overnights?

diddl · 15/03/2013 08:24

Perhaps leave her out of it in future & start to make the arrangements yourself?

I agree that these arrangements are between parents, but can understand why she'll be pissed off tbh.

It's only her business if you make it her business. It's perfectly normal for a child to have overnights with the father. It's important that your DS can bond with his father. It's nothing to do with your mother (although, I expect she's just trying to look out for you). Ask her nicely to wind her neck in!

I know she is only trying to protect me and ds. The only reason for no overnights really was because exp is horrible to me.. he is fine with ds and looks after him well.
