Embarrassing ... Q about using lube

I asked on here ages ago about a problem I was having and the advice was to try using some lube, apparently everyone does but I've never tried it. Turns out Tesco has a whole shelf of the stuff so I guess it must be more common than I realised. Anyway, managed to pluck up the courage to buy some, thankyou to whoever invented self-service checkout, no way could I ever have taken it to a normal till!

Anyway ... I've read the instructions and it just says 'apply wherever you want', which isn't exactly much help. So, dear MN, since there's no way on earth I'm going to ask anyone in real life about this ... how do we use it? Does it go on me or him? Am I supposed to squirt some inside or rub it on? Put it on at the start or just when needed? We're pretty comfortable with sex, I'm not nearly as shy as this all makes me sound, honest, just hoping for some pointers.

Well you could squirt some on your hand and give him a hand job, and he could put some on his fingers etc, so it's not as awkward as just putting it on and going right at it!

It really doesn't matter, it all ends up in the same place :) some people find it easier to put it on him, some on her. You shouldn't have to squirt it inside, it will get pushed inside anyway. If you use condoms you can also put a drop inside it before he puts it on, to make sex more pleasurable for him (not too much though, or it might slip off). Just have fun with it! You can also get flavoured/warming/tingling lube if you that kind of thing appeals.
