Can i tell if he's abroad? Will the call show differently? Or if i call or text him on my phone can i see from mine. Trying not to be suspicious but wondering if on trip to London or abroad.

You can text him and then later see if you are charged for an international text.

Or call him and see if you are later charged for international calls.

Or sometimes the "ring ring" noise is different.

preggersbycheggers · 04/03/2013 16:34

No it won't show differently if he calls you but if you call him it will be an international ring tone.

cooper44 · 04/03/2013 16:39

yes exactly just call him and you will get an international ring tone if he is abroad. easy.

twomagpies · 04/03/2013 16:40

Ah..the longer sound ringtone when u r waiting for them to pick up? Im on a package so will see if intl texts or calls Sep recorded. Thanks all.

When I call DP in Germany the ringtone sounds like a tone almost like an engaged tone, it confused me the first few times.

NotAnotherPackedLunch · 04/03/2013 16:43

If you are talking to him on his mobile you could ask if there is a landline he can call on as the reception is poor. Then 1471 will tell you where he is calling from.

twomagpies · 04/03/2013 16:43

R all smartphone the same? I really do need to catch up with 21st century.

Packed even. See. Can't even type.

Pourquoimoi · 04/03/2013 16:47

If you text or phone him it won't be charged as international on your bill as you'll just be charged for the uk end of the call. He is then charged for receiving it.

The ring tone will be different though usually.

CooEeeEldridge · 04/03/2013 16:51

You don't always get an international ring tone when someone's abroad, don't know why. If his iPhone is on your iTunes account then the 'find my iPhone' app will locate all devices on that account.

CashmereHoodlum · 04/03/2013 16:55

You can sometimes tell by the time on the text.

twomagpies · 04/03/2013 16:55

So might / might not. He has Samsung too but i guess same as iphone apart from find my iphone thing.

Or you can email him. I think if he replies it will have the time he replied on it so you can see what time zone he is in.

BertieBotts · 04/03/2013 17:19

DP and I both have Samsungs.

ApplyYourself · 04/03/2013 18:24

Trills is not quite right re the texting. If you text him it will be included in your normal allowance or charged at your usual rate. You only pay for the UK leg of the text/call - the person abroad would pick up the international leg of it.

Best thing to do is just ring him. You will hear an international tone which is unmistakable as it doesn't go 'ring ring ...'

clam · 04/03/2013 22:27

Any luck?

ImperialBlether · 04/03/2013 23:17

You could try to phone him from work. International calls will be blocked.

You could also find a friend with no credit for calls but with a bundle for free calls; you won't be able to call him if he's abroad.

OP, what makes you think he's abroad?

galwaygirl · 04/03/2013 23:29

Your call to him wouldn't be blocked as international as you're dialling a UK number. Texts won't be international.
As others have said it is the ringtone that is the give away!

twomagpies · 05/03/2013 07:18

Thankyou all. I rang and it was a normal ringtone. All well and back today. Clearly i am having a moment.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/03/2013 07:23

If you text or call him you won't be charged for international texts or calls , just standard ones and he will be charged the difference. So if you called him and the calls don't get charged as international it does NOT mean he was lying about his whereabouts.

ImperialBlether · 05/03/2013 20:12

If he's used his bank cards over the last couple of days, any transactions will show on his statements. Do you share an account?

Do you mind my asking why you thought he was abroad?

kinkyfuckery · 05/03/2013 20:18

What reasons do you have to suspect he is lying to you?

Do you have an iPhone too OP? Because then his texts to you would come via iMessage, which is kind of like Apple's version of Whatsapp and use internet data or wifi for delivery.
