Getting back with an ex

Does getting back with your ex ever work? Have you ever done it or do you know of any happily after tales of people who've got back with their ex after a long split? (I'm talking almost a year)

I don't know of anyone who has done this, my parents had a trial seperation of about 6mths when I was younger and the tried again but it didn't work.

I suppose it could work but you'd have to be sure that all the reasons for splitting in the first place had been addressed.

there is someone on MN who did this but not sure whether she wants people to keep mentioning her

yes i did.
Dp and i split for about 15 months, we have a dd (5.4).
We split for a number of reasons, he is in the forces and was constantly being deployed, i never had any time to myself but he did everything he wanted, he became violent and we just didnt have anything between us anymore, it was like a competition all the time. It was really awful.

I split up with ex dh for 6 months and we then got back together but I think we both knew it wasn't right pretty quickly afterwards. We had no kids but still stuck at it for a year before mutually agreeing to split. I did meet a couple on holiday in their early 50's who had been married for 20 yeard before they had a 2 year trial separation. They had just got back together when we met them and wer sure it was going to work.

Btw, we have been back together for about 14 months now

I split with my x in june 2001, went on to have two children by a new partner. New partner lets call him J was a complete tw*t a bully who beat and abused me in every way I left J in December (or kicked him out) and got back together with xp in March 2005 we have been together just over a year and i am vry happy

I got back with a complete bastard of an ex...twice! I am now married to him!!

Friends of mine split for over a year. She left him for a lover. He was absolutely gutted and went really downhill. Then they met again, when she was still seeing the other bloke, and was saying that NewPartner could not beat OldPartner. They had been together for so long and they knew each other so well and had been best mates... About half a year later she was back with him, got married, had a child and lived happily ever after...

I got back with ex after 3 year split - married him 5 years after that and another 5 years down the line we are still v. happy and expecting a dd2 or ds in July.

my sister and her dh were child hood sweethearts and were together for 4 years. they split due to his mum pushing for them to get married and they felt too young.

split for 5 years with no contact, both engaged to other people when bumped into each other. got together 6 months later.

now been married for 4 years, have a ds and ttc.
very stable togther but pleased they split and lived their lives before settling down.
