Really hoping this is just my overactive imagination. DH recently told me that he's been getting lots of friend requests from women, he doesn't know them and they're not friends of friends so he doesn't know why it's happening. I didn't have any idea either. But after thinking for a bit I wonder if he's used his email (that's linked to his fb) to sign up to a site that's a bit dodgy/porny and it's spam based on that? (ie they know his email from his registration and are trying to getting him to sign up to other things by sending "fake" women's friend requests on fb)

Please feel free to tell me if I'm being barking mad! Grin

Ooh I wonder!! Same thing has happened to my dp lately...couple of weird women's names friend requesting him. silly sounding names. Let me know if/how u find out!

I recently received a lot of friend requests from men in India. No idea who they were or why they were sending friend requests.

I just deleted them

Have you googled his e-mail address? That may give you some answers.
Alternatively, it could be some weirdo stalker setting up random profiles. My ex did that. The users all had strange names and were from odd geographic locations. None had many friends. Do these FB users have many friends?

BF had his Twitter account hacked recently. He and all his followers have been getting strange stuff through on Twitter and FB.

I get friend requests from lots of Indian people. I put the wrong school in and can't be bothered don't know how to change it. They're probably wondering who I am and why no one remembers me.Blush

Err not sure, he might have used his email for something and yes they've latched onto that but not necessarily a dodgy site. Let's put it this way, for some reason I keep getting text messages from some kind of porn site Why I have no bloody idea but I did mention to husband I had just received a last minute chance offer to see "Carol Vorderman sex tape- see it now before it's removed" Good God I can't imagine anything worse l

I never ever used any of my email addresses on any dodgy websites, still out of blue, I started to get lots of messages from some Nigerian dating websites on my messenger. More likely, seems like the leakage of the personal data somewhere down the complex chain of out-sourced business functions.

Sorry pressed too quick. Anyway the point is these sites can target anyone and hope for the best so I wouldn't jump to conclusions unless you have more suspicions.

Not experienced that but I did used to keep getting friend requests from people I didn't know at all on FB. Not even friends of friends. I have changed my security settings so that only friends of friends can send me requests, and only friends can see my profile. Oh, and I have changed the name I appear under.

I do get a lot of spam/junk email, but I suspect that this is because people just spam variations of email addresses.

Thanks for the responses, as you say it could be something totally innocent so that's a good thing. However..

I did mention to him that could be a reason, and (slight red flag 1) got v grumpy with me, accused me of accusing him of things. I say slight red flag not big red flag as I jokingly said he's got that many women on his fb he should add them anyway, they'd fit right in! He thought I was attacking him and got the arse on. He's hiding upstairs now (3 hrs and counting) Hmm

Massive red flag - I did a very very stupid thing and had a quick look at his internet history. He looked at something earlier this week that he is going to find very difficult to explain away. Shocked and wanting to talk to him, but he's refusing to wake up. Arse.

A few weeks ago, Zombie got a friend request from someone who had only set up their FB account 54 minutes earlier. It was quite obvious (well, to Zombie it was) that it was a fake profile designed to scam vulnerable women. It's a variation of the American serviceman scam but this charmer chose a high profile, very high ranking officer to impersonate. She reported the profile to FB. It's still there. She checks it every couple of days and sends a warning to any women who have accepted his request.

No idea on God's green earth how he found me (privacy settings very high) nor why he chose me as one of his early targets.

Have just seen your other thread Sad and have to say that signing up to dodgy sites would probably explain the strange FB requests.

Can you do a search for his email address and see what it brings up? And do a search on the computer for dodgy cookies - you can type in keywords.
