Emotional affair

What exactly is an emotional affair, what would you class as one? Sorry probably sound abit dim but heard it quite a lot on threads no really sure what constitutes as one

I believe it is a situation where a person believes they are in love with someone but they haven't been intimate

It is something which has the same dishonesty as a full blown affair, in terms of secret meetings/calls/emails, deception of partner/spouse to maintain those contacts, and intimacy placed outside if the main relationship.

The emotional content of an affair, and the sustained lying, are often the most hurtful parts of a betrayal, whether or not intercourse has occurred.

When you wouldn't want your partner to see emails/texts or listen to conversations you have with another person.

When you are investing more of your time thinking about the other person and this in turn effects your current relationship.

And yes agree with Meditrina that this is often as hurtful as a full blown affair.

My understanding is someone who is talking meeting sharing their feelings with someone without being intimate. I think it's as bad as a full blown affair if not worse because they are connecting on an emotional level.
