Facebook relationship status boo boo

Errrm does anyone know how to change one's relationship status on FB without announcing it to the whole world? In a fit of pique last week I rather childishly changed my relationship status on FB from "in a relationship with ...." to a blank Blush. Now I want to change it back to "in a relationship" without him noticing. The trouble is that FB tends to announce these things to the entire world and plasters it all over my wall and all of my friend's news feeds. I know I can hide it on my wall but don't know how to avoid it appearing on other people's feeds, including of course HIS. I am worried that A) he might notice how childish I was being (he hasn't noticed yet what I did) B) I will be inundated with "likes" and genuinely felt messages of congratulations, when all I want to do is sneakily revert back to being "in a relationship" without anyone noticing!

Might it not be better to leave your status blank and if anybody asks you can say you thought it was teenager-ish to have your relationship status on there?

Change your privacy settings to hide your relationship status from everyone apart from yourself. Then change the status (no announcements cos it will be private) then change your privacy settings again so everyone can see it.

Thanks Lolly I will try that - hopefully it will work. I just had a look and it says I can limit who sees future posts. Do "posts" include the changes to information in the "About" section. For some reason FB makes a huge fanfare about relationship changes.

Cashmere - thanks - yes that's quite a good explanation - it would make me look mature rather than childish and petulant, which is what I was being

Why not just leave it blank. Do you really want everyone to know when you break up and make up and have the whole 'are we in a relationship, when do we announce it on FB' conversation (assuming you aren't 15), if you are prone to do things like that when feeling childish then its probably not going to do any good haing it on there.

Aside from anything else you will probably have to request him to 'be in a relationship' with you if you deleted it off

Just leave it. If your relationship is so unstable that your status can affect it I think you have bigger problems than Facebook.

Just leave it.

You can hide posts, but it'll alert the person involved in the post - so he will always get an alert/possibly an email.

FB likes to know everything and will even email ex-partners, helpfully, so he'll find out.

Unless you can get access to his FB immediately after doing it and hide the notification.

The thing is when you add a name to it, you can limit it on your wall but the person you are in effect tagging gets a notification asking them to approve and agree to the update. You cannot do it without him finding out.

Geeky - yes I was intending to not include the name, as it will ask him if he wants to accept the update if I include his name.

I've never put my "relationship status" into FB and this is one of the many reasons. Just leave it blank. FB RS is for teenagers only surely?
