Find Friends App

Anyone else's DH suggest they use this App? (Basically it lets you locate someone else's telephone all the time) DH suggested we use it so that I can check in the evenings so I know when he's left the office but I hate the thought that he can tell where I am all the time. I have no idea if he actually does, but I know that he thinks all I do is sit around drinking coffee and generally being on holiday all the time. I do go out to coffee once a week with a friend (at most) but now wonder if I should cancel this (or ask her to come to my place). Although it should help him locate me if I try to take the DC's out for a walk in the woods again and DS goes on strike... Does anyone know if the other person gets a message if you turn the tracking off?

Suggest spying on each other? Surprisingly... no.... Hmm Is he a jealous man that you're thinking of cancelling meeting your friend?

We've got it, DH works in the middle of nowhere 40 miles away from home and doesn't get a phone signal there, I use it to see if he's on his way home so I know when to put tea on, he can finish any time between 4 and 5.30pm so it's a very useful app for me. AFAIK he's never tracked me but it wouldn't bother me if he did. If he's been away with work I like to track him down and freak him out with telling him what he's eating in whichever restaurant I find him in Grin .
If there is no signal it comes up as "location not available", I assume it would show that if the tracking was off?

I've got the Where's My Droid app in case I lose my phone. My DH has used it sometimes to see where I am when I haven't answered my phone. I can tell when he does it as I get sent a text, so I know he's only done it a couple of times. It doesn't bother me at all, but it would if I felt he was checking up on me and planning to use the information against me!

If it's an iPhone and you go to settings, privacy, location services 'off' the person tracking you won't know if it is off or in an area with poor reception. Just don't forget to turn it back on. It also drains battery as the phone is constantly finding its location so I turn off if I want to save battery too.

Do you want to check what time he leaves in the office at night? Confused

But if he wants you to track him, that doesn't mean you want him to track you, right?

So why does it have to be a reciprocal arrangement?

I'd just say a cheery 'No thanks!' to the app. and kill the idea stone dead.

Oh and don't alter your arrangements with your friend. Why should you?

... He thinks all I do is sit around drinking coffee and generally being on holiday - that rang a small alarm bell.

Then I remembered you from an earlier post. Don't install the app Snowy, it's not for your benefit.

Sorry I didn't answer til now. We had an argument before Christmas because I hadn't cooked dinner when he got home as I was waiting for his message to say he'd left. He came home to DS being cranky and DD screaming because she was hungry and I hadn't got dinner ready. We had previously agreed that if he was going to be later than 6 he would let me know, then he started to send a message every day when he left the office. Then suddenly stopped. I assumed he was working late.

So this was his answer. I installed it not really realising what it was (it doesn't work anyway, its supposed to message me automatically when he leaves the office, but it doesn't) and that he could track me too. It is practical for me in the evenings, I know it takes him 25-30 mins to get home so I can start dinner cooking or I know I can give the DC's something to keep them going until dinner time.

He told me this morning that I shouldn't go into town and should come straight home after dropping the DC's off so I can do something useful Hmm. I really wonder if I'm being paranoid, but it unsettles me that he can check exactly where I am all the time.

Just uninstall it and tell him that unless you hear from him, you'll eat with the kids when you're all hungry.

Also tell that you'll go where you damned well want to.

But this sounds like an abusive marriage so actually strike all that and just get the fuck out of it.

kinkyfuckery · 14/01/2013 14:33

Tell him to fuck off. He shouldn't be trying to control where you are and when.

And you should probably just make tea for a certain time every night, if he isn't home in time then he can reheat it later,

Flobbadobs · 14/01/2013 14:36

I make tea every night at the same time. DH varies the time he gets back deoending on how busy he is at work. I put his to one side and he heats it up when he gets in. Thats how it should be.
Uninstall it. lady is right, this isn't for your benefit.

CheeseandPickledOnion · 14/01/2013 14:47

Sounds like you have bigger issues than just this app.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 14/01/2013 14:52

"He told me this morning that I shouldn't go into town and should come straight home after dropping the DC's off so I can do something useful "

What is he your employer? Prison guard? Trainer? Hmm You're not being paranoid, this man is taking the piss.
