I have tried POF and.....I started chatting with a man, seems ok, BUT....he has started sending me emails about his undying love for me. We have not even spoken on the phone yet! Am I correct in thinking to myself : RUN TO THE HILLS? I have deleted my POF account. Not answered his email. This is spooking me out, normally we had agreed that I would call him this evening. Does this sort of thing really happen or is it me? Help!

Yes, this sort of thing really does happen and, no, it's not you.

If all he's got is your email address, you don't need to run anywhere as all you have to is mark him as 'junk' and he's gone.

Deleting your POF account seems a bit of an overeaction. Why not join this thread - they're a jolly lot who've seen and heard it all before and you'll soon how to avoid the nutters the pitfalls of online dating.

Btw, needless to say, don't call him tonight - or any other night.

Very flattering but yes, run. :) Whilst I'm not downplaying your ability to create undying devotion in a total stranger at all, emotionally incontinent people sadly do exist and they are usually trouble.
