Damn damn damn!!

Hi ladies,
So have had a bit of a shitty year so far (mum dying, getting divorce from DH etc) Have met someone I really like - he treats me like a princess, constant laughter, can talk for hours. I knew there had to be a catch - and last night when I stayed over for the first time I found it. The snoring. I have never heard anything like it. No matter what position he was in. I literally didn't get even 30 mins sleep the whole night. What do I do? There's nothing I can do - I can't contemplate spending the rest of my life with no sleep :-(

Nasal patch? Ear plugs?

Don't live together. Don't stay over. That will keep things sweet for a very long time!

Does he know he snores like a wart hog then OP?

If he doesn't know he snores tell him and get him down to see his GP for ENT referral. Is he overweight?

He must do - surely someone must have told him by now! He is a bit overweight I suppose - maybe I will give it a few more stay overs then tell him! Seemed a bit early to do after the first night!

As someone already said, don't stay over or I you do then sleep on a different room.

I find sleeping in the same bed as my DW a pain to be honest with her constant heavy breathing and getting up to the loo about 4 times a night.
Much prefer the spare room.

I like the concept of living together apart as some people do nowadays.

Well there is an operation for this , my friends husband got it, but unfortunatley it did not cure him!!, sleep in seperate rooms maybe the better of 2 evils keeps the magic alive!

OP, honestly, ear plugs would surprise you. Worth a go, at least until a more permanent solution can be found.

My DP is so loud you can hear him from any other room in the house. I'm only having to wean myself off the ear plugs as we will have a baby to listen out for (if he can be heard over his father) in two weeks.

Go to the britishsnoring.co.uk website use the tools there to work out (with him involved) what kind of snorer he is, & then look at the solutions they offer.

DH and I ended up with him using a mouth guard thing - which worked a treat. He will have to 'buy in' to stopping though because some of the solutions aren't pretty!

I use ear plugs and while they work well, it is still very difficult for me to sleep and either DH or I land up in the spare room! His snoring manages to vibrate the springs in the bed which drives me fucking nuts! i am not joking about that.

I also suggest separate rooms AND ear plugs if necessary.

My beloved snores, I have bioears or something like that, they dampen down his snores, but I swear I can still hear if my DS needs me.

Honestly, snoring's rough, but I'd rather a hgreat man that snores than a tosser that doesn't!

The mouth guards are okay, they still don't cut all the snoring. The downside I find is the squelching noise of it moving in his mouth, the cold blast of air that whistles in your face from the mouth hole, and being woken by snoring when it falls out, then having to wake a grumpy dh and start searching down the headboard to find the bloody thing.

Separate rooms with conjugal visits....I was hospitalized with cluster migraines once, as the snoring was so loud, I was actually grinding my teeth in my sleep with the stress of it.

Sympathies. DH snores terribly and at one point I was diagnosed with depression due to lack of sleep! It has improved recently as he has lost some weight and cut back on the booze. GP also prescribed a nose spray (can't remember name) that he takes every night before bed, which I think has an anti-inflammation effect.

Other crucial things to keep me sane are:

• ear plugs
• separate rooms at least once a week
• trying to get to sleep before him, which means going to bed about half an hour before (why do snorers fall asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillow!)
• the more tired he is, the worse the snoring is. The odd early night (for sleep!!) is crucial.

Nasal strips worked for me with pregnancy related snoring. Who'd a thunk it eh?

Ear plugs are a godsend.

DH snores so bloody loudly, I initially thought I was going to have to end our relationship due to lack of sleep.

He has actually had an operation on his nose which improved things massively.
