Why do people think the grass is greener?....

My dh and I cannot understand why people do not think about what is to come if they begin an affair.
If they leave their "boring" relationship for a new partner then surely 90% of the time it will settle down too and they'll get the same again!!
Just wondered what other people thought?

oh I don't know. Can't say i'm not guilty of grass is greener type thoughts re all areas of my life, human nature really isn't it? depends also I suppose on how compatible/in love the couple is.

Think "the grass is greener" is highly simplistic idea of why people have an affair....

Yes, you're right I have thoughts too but then I know could have a lot worse in life and everyone has faults, including myself!
A lot of this is because my parents had lots and lots of bad rows when I was young and I used to tink I would have had a happier life had they split up.
But now I have a family of my own I appreciate that they worked at it and are still together, 40 odd years since they met!
I actually think rows are a healthy part of a relationship!!

i am with you having been left by someone who thought grass was greener, it because its all exciting and fresh at start, and when you have been together you forget that you once had that,and sometimes it is so much easier to go for fresh rather than work through problems in your relationship..

agree sanchpanch, how are you now? have had that feeling loads, 'partner' is feeling it now, I fear he will go for someone else because it will be happy and good exciting etc.. at the start, wheras we are in a rut, and have a lot of sorting out to do.

I think men have an affair for excitement etc but not to necessarily leave the marriage unless kicked out

I think women have an affair cos their marriage/relationship is a pretty dreadful state and they cant see how it will change....and usually leave.

The grass isnt always greener on the other side .. have learnt that by own experience. Stick with what you know if possible and work at it.
