New guy got really drunk and acted like this - what does it mean?

I offered to pick up my boyfriend of 4 months up from a night out last weekend. When I picked him up, he'd drank more than 10 pints and a number of shots and was very drunk. As soon as he got in the car he started going on about how I'm obviously sick of him and am going to dump him. He was smiling/laughing when saying it so wasn't being aggressive but he kept saying it over and over again. "you've had enough of me havnt you? you're going to dump me, I can tell, you don't want me anymore, I do your head in don't I? the only thing in the world that I care about is that you don't want to dump me" etc etc over and over again.

He's not usually like this!! when sober, I'm the insecure one! (although not to those obsessive levels!!)

So is this drunken state a true representation of how he truely feels inside but manages to hide when sober?

What was he like when he sobered up?

Ignore it. I have never believed 'in vino veritas' because I have come out with some right rubbish when drunk. And said it again and again and again

No he just went back to his normal self, apologized for acting daft and thanked me for putting up with him. I told him the stuff he'd been saying and he just laughed it off.

Sounds like he was ashamed of being so rascally drunk?

I v. rarely get drunk, but it's known to happen on certain socials.
DW rolls her eyes and makes me tea and a bacon sandwich. [I hasten to add she likes me going to these, and will drop me off voluntarily]

I do end up having to sleep in another room as it makes me snore...

Another one here who has spouted what can only be described as bare-faced lies when drunk - when I was younger I had a terrible habit of telling people that I was in love with them.

Who knows what triggered it...maybe someone made a jokey comment while he was out and it hit a nerve, or perhaps he was embarrassed about being so drunk. Much better for him to be saying that than the opposite! Bet he was really embarrassed when he woke up.

Sometimes in vino you say what's truly on your mind (over & over again).

And sometimes you say something that seems true cos you're drunk (over & over again).

I wouldn't worry unduly - if he was aggressive or nasty or he gets stinking drunk a lot, I'd be rethinking the relationship - but this seems fairly innocuous.

What do you think he means by it? What do you want it to mean?

I would say he's into you but is very insecure and this was him expressing that and testing the water to see your reaction.

Depends...if he was maudlin about it and weird, or crying or anything, then I'd do one really.

Excessive self deprecation when pissed can mean that they are terminally insecure and this might translate into jealous and angry behaviour later.

(I know this as ex used to do it...stupid, stupid phone calls when very drunk, saying I was ignoring his texts, where had I been, I don't love him etc. It was pathetic but with an undercurrent of threatening/blaming me irrationally if I so much as went out without him.

Turned out he was a serial abuser and frequently got violent in these circumstances, but thankfully I'd dumped him already as I was sick of his moody bullshit)

I dunno, drink does funny things to you. I haven't seen dp drunk for ages but we went to a birthday party at the weekend and walking home he became angry to the point of being unable to speak ... about the ugliness of the 1960s architecture of the shopping precinct. Needless to say, though this probably does still bother him a bit when sober, it is not a true insight into the depths of his character that he feels much more strongly about it when drunk!

I think it means he drinks too much, and shouldn't mix beer and spirits.
