Something strange on h's computer...

Ok, I was on h's computer today because I needed to look at a file on his desktop, and a pm appeared from some woman. I don't think she knows him, but sounded like a prostitute.
What is shagaholic.com? Is it possible to receive messages from there without being registered?

The conversation sunded impersonal, and she said she was hot and needed someone to do her, which is why I think she possibly might be a prostitute

Yes, you can absolutely get messages like that. He may have been perusing websites at some stage, which is then an open invitation for this kind of crap to stream in.

Could the conversation just have popped up randomly without being registered?

Sometimes PMs like that are just random phishing things, or not even real PMs but just another form of pop-up ad made to look like a PM...I occasionally used to receive messages on MSN from random sex workers telling me they were hot for me, who I assume just have a massive database of names somewhere...

google it - it says you have to register - otherwise you have a virus/trojan to get those sorts of pop ups

God I'm sorry knackered. don't know much about these things, but have to say I never get pop ups of this kind when I use a computer.

So he would have to be registered. Finding this a difficult day. He stays up late working, while I take my laptop up usually...

Ooh I saw this on our history the other day shagholic.com and sexit.com poor dh got a text from me demanding he call me ASAP, but he reckons its one of those pop up sites, from the history it was just the one page so I believe him, can you check your history op?

Are you sure it's not a spam thing though? I've had strange random messages for all kinds of services on my phone, email, MSN account. They do get lists of numbers/email addresses etc from 'normal' contact sites. Well they must do as I haven't given my details across to any of those kinds of sites.

No viagra, hot sexy chat, penis enlargement (Do they do a free sex-change with that?), men needing dates etc for me. And that's before I need to check my account with x, y & z banks.

I'd ask about his spam filters first, see if he looks panicked before asking further.

I asked him this evening to keep his computer clean of stuff like that because ds sometimes likes to look at cbeebies on it. He did seem slightly panicked

Just a thought on the very rare times I manage to sign in to yahoo messenger I get all sorts of messages like that, completely unsolicited I just ignore them.

My DM get's these kinds of things. I get calls at work "Cracker, why does this lady want to talk to me?" I keep telling her their spam and to ignore.

I used to get this sort of thing when I used MSN - and I still get Sexy Suzies from Vladivostok wanting to talk to me on yahoo all the time! (And trust me, I'm not registered with any buddy sites!)

It could be entirely happenstance.

PS - the fact that he has a new Mac doesn't mean he's impregnable. The bad guys are targetting macs more and more - and of course, what you have on a Mac is equally important.

I used to get messages like this on my laptop- they would pop up and appear like a chat message. Considering I was the only person who used my laptop and I hadn't been on any dodgy sites, it is possible that it is spam.

Almost all porn sites have those pop ups attached, they are designed to look like real messages so idiots with no brains think "oooh a hot woman is talking to little old me". If you click on it, it will take you to a sign up page for a dating / chat site of some kind. It's just crap advertising.

BUT, it's most likely malware that he's accidentally allowed to be installed while visiting a porn site.

It could be worth setting up a separate account for DH or just your DC. I look at news and other non porn related stuff that I wouldn't want my DC seeing, so she has her own account that is locked down to her stuff.

That's a good point, technoviking. There are some things that adults look at that are not porn but may nonetheless be unsuitable for younger DCs.

Could well just be a pop on a site. Would usually suggest he's looked at a porn site, but my DM gets them very occasionally, and having checked her history she's not a porn user...

OP it's probably not a real time PM IYSWIM? They sometimes pop up and if you click them they take you to a porn site. I've had them pop up on my computer, which does not get used for porn.
