I always take it to be Soon To Be X Husband and always use it as such, but any of the above are appropriate

I don't know why people bother really, if you are split up then why not move straight into "ex"?

because some people have more than one, so they have the ex and the soon to be ex, lol

It can also be used by posters who are gearing up to leave a P or H, but where the split hasn't happened yet. "STBX" is a label that helps steel their resolve to make the move.

Yes, it helps me because he walked out in Feb and I still referred to him as H for ages. It was quite a significant move to start labelling him as STBXH and didnt feel as aggressive as twunt .

My divorce will come through any now hopefully and then he will be the X forever!!!
