Friend of mine recently told me about the first date she had with her DH (and it was a disaster!) - what was the first date like that you went on with your DH?

We went to the fireworks at Lewes. He held my hand so I wouldn't get lost.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 18/09/2012 17:07

Our first "date" was to see the Brand New Heavies at Brixton Academy.

He offered me some Charlie I declined

Second date was a dinner party and I never went home

Been together 20 years Grin

LemonDrizzled · 18/09/2012 17:09

Went for a drink in a lovely country pub to discuss dating disasters after chatting on POF for ages. Talked non stop for three hours and both realised we should have lots of sex be together!

He isn't a DH yet I can't think of a reason why he shouldn't be!

fluffyraggies · 18/09/2012 17:10

Oh oh, listen to this one:

1st date - in a pub - wasn't sure about him. No kisses. Said yes to 2nd date. He told one of his friends he was :( because he didn't think i liked him.

2nd date - again a pub. So strange this: I remember he was sitting opposite me at this tiny table chatting to me about something or other. He smiled and touched my elbow and BANG Grin I remember all the noise of the pub going fuzzy and not hearing what he was saying properly anymore as i was just thinking 'oh my GOD you are gorgeous! Stop the small talk and TAKE ME NOW!!!!!' It took me a few moments to collect myself.

We kissed that night. I played hard to get for a couple more dates

We married 2 years later :) I'll never forget that moment though. Never had that happen before.

KentuckyFriedChildren · 18/09/2012 17:14

We held hands in the park and then shared a hot chocolate on a bench in the cold. I was 13 and he was 14 :)

We still do that on occasion 10 years on.

LottieJenkins · 18/09/2012 17:23

He met me at our local pub wearing a very loud Hawaian shirt which he never wore again. He took me to another pub for lunch then picked my bike up on the way home and he drove me home!

roughtyping · 18/09/2012 17:32

First time we kissed - went to a punk night at Barfly. One of our friends fell on the dance floor.

Second 'date' - went to the cinema, can't remember what we saw. Went with 2 friends.

First actual date, I.e. him taking me out somewhere - a wee Italian restaurant. He told me the other day he'd never eaten carbonara before that....!

We split up for a year. First date back together was a drink at the pub and back to mine watching Almost Famous.

We were young though - 18 when we got together, and my DS was 9 months old so dates were tricky! We're now 8 years on and planning our wedding :)

Shodan · 18/09/2012 17:38

I was very drunk the night we met and we had arranged to go on a date two days later. The next day he texted me asking if we could meet up that day, to which I replied no as I was desperately hungover and didn't want to inflict that on him on a first date.

He picked me up and took me out for dinner- I remember stealing little glances at him in the car and thinking 'Phew! He is as good-looking as I remember'.

After dinner we went back to his place for 'coffee' where I covertly snooped at the envelopes to get his name- I had remembered it wrong Grin. We didn't have a full cup of 'coffee' but I had enough to know he was a keeper...

Shodan · 18/09/2012 17:39

envelopes on his coffee table, that should've said!

kissyfur · 18/09/2012 17:58

Well he's not my DH yet but...
We met in a local pub one afternoon when there was an England game on, he was my best mates BF's older brother. Could definitely feel a spark when we were introduced Smile that night we all went out to a local nightclub and spent the evening snogging each others faces off! Blush The next day we went out for Sunday lunch at a local pub, then back to his for more snogging! Then he took me home. That was 13 and a half years ago and we have a beautiful 2 year old DD, another DC on the way and a cat! Grin we've been engaged for a few years but not tied the knot yet...

tb · 18/09/2012 19:14

Got tickets at work for the She club - I had a holiday job where dh was working. Met in the sports bar of the Adelphi first. He took me home and came in for coffee - and left at 4am.

Four and a half hours later we were at work, knackered, but did about 2 days work in one.

QuietTiger · 18/09/2012 19:18

We had a really shit date in Wagamamas. I was about 30 minutes late, He didn't say a word most of the night, as he was too nervous, I yabbered on about anything I could think of to fill the silence and we finished early and went our separate ways.

we married a year later, so obviously not a disaster!

Nuttyprofessor · 18/09/2012 22:40

He was 15, I was 16. We went to the cinema to see Saturday Night Fever. On the way a pigeon dropped a parcel on his head and down the back of his new jacket. He took the jacket off and threw it over the wall into the park.

The following day I retrieved it, laundered it and gave it back to him. Yes I do know better now.

Jenstar21 · 18/09/2012 22:48

I was travelling in New Zealand and he was working in a bar in Queenstown. We had a very drunken one night stand and I assumed I'd never see him again. He turned up at my hostel the next day and I was so hungover I threw up about 10 yards from him. I thought he was far too gorgeous and buff for me, but 8 years and a good few thousand miles later, us and DD are a very happily unmarried family. :)

GroupieGirl · 18/09/2012 23:03

We met through a very persistant friend and our first proper date was drinks, dinner, (the startling realisation that I was about to fall helplessly in love) and back to his for (ahem) wine.
Wouldn't change a thing!

CaliforniaLeaving · 19/09/2012 02:44

We were 12 and went with a group of school friends to the cinema. Dh was messing about and the usher was this old guy who we used to say was about 100 and crotchety, in the end the old guy threw us out, so Dh and I wandered about town waiting for all our friends to get out of the Cinema. He gave me butterflies even back then. We go married 11 years later and have three kids.

TapirBackRider · 19/09/2012 04:27

We'd met after I was mugged on the way home from work. For our first date he bought tickets for the theatre - we met at St Pancras Station (where I discovered he had dire taste in clothes) and we went for a meal first.

After the show, we walked down Whitehall to the embankment, stopping at pubs on the way. We both got totally sloshed, snogged madly and managed to miss the last bus/train home.

Hard to believe that it was a little over 20 yrs ago!

fiverabbits · 19/09/2012 04:51

I had been out with DH friend for a few weeks about two months before our first date but used to see him and his 3 friends in the pub. One night I had a dance with him and he saw me home. We arranged for him to come to my house on the Wednesday. When the doorbell rang I was lying on the settee because I had a sickness bug, my mum wasn't going to let him but I said I can't get up and it's too cold to leave him outside as it was January, she let him in and offered him a cup of tea, she could drink 6 cups at a time. He said Yes, and I still say that if he had said No he wouldn't have been allowed to stay for the next hour. He sat on one side of the room while I layed on the settee on the other side with my mum in between us !
We got married two years later and have been married 40 years.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 21/09/2012 17:45

He was a friend of a friend that I'd met through myspace Grin
He came to my house with a bottle of wine to watch a film...
It was always obvious where that was heading, but I'm sure we both thought it would be longer than 20mins later.......!

And I dont think either of us met up that day thinking we'd be married with two kids all these years later :)

DaveGrohlsgirl · 21/09/2012 18:02

We had been flirting for months whilst working together, went on a works do and snogged covertly (I was married - yes I know!!!)
Two weeks later was our first proper date. He picked me up and drove me to his house, a 2.5 hour journey, during which I hardly spoke as spent the whole time thinking "I am actually going to have to have sex with this man"
16 years and 2 DCs later.....best decision I ever made Grin

OhDearNigel · 21/09/2012 18:11

Met up in a pub, realised that we were the last people left aand the staff were trying to give us the hint to go home ! Dh then got called into work, ended up helping him put his file together then sat in my car talking until the sun rose, went home at 5am to my Mum sitting waiting for me, worried out of her mind thaat I had had a car crash

something2say · 21/09/2012 18:38

Not my husband but still...

I saw him at a gig and we made eye contact, then I went home. Then I friend requested him on fb. Wink Then he started poking me!!!

This went on for 2 weeks. The first week, I left it hours before I poked back. Then he disappeared for the weekend and having nothing on the horizon, I was gutted that he'd gone! So when he poked again on Monday, I poked back straight away. But I refused to make the initial actual contact ie speaking.

He made it the following Monday, when I was at work finishing up prior to the rest of the week off. He messaged me on fb and we spent the night talking on there and then on the phone and I found him clever, funny, sweet and easy to talk to. I'm hot but quite shy lol! so I can find it difficult to chat to strangers ie men.

Then the next day he invited himself to my house!! And I let him come!!??!! And we spent the evening sitting on the floor playing music and chatting. No physical contact at all. I thought he smelled nice, had good thighs and was generally a really nice guy, probably nicer than anyone I've ever dated. He was also quite well known musically and thus intimidating...

It is now 6 months in and we are falling in love and generally having a great time. Not a traditional first date tho!

We spent the entire rest of the week together as well. (i didn't sleep with him for a while tho. ;)

The first kiss happened on the second night. The first night, as I saw him out I was thinking 'Oh god will he try and kiss me??' and he kissed me on the cheek and it was soft and he smelled nice. The second night we were watching a DVD and got about a third of the way through before snogging for England! Such fun! I was out the entire week with him, he took me to a video shoot for a band's first single!

DyeInTheEar · 21/09/2012 18:44

It was brilliant fun. I was really late as got lost, he'd drunk a bottle of champagne -he'd got to woo me and was well on his way to being drunk. And we went on to have a hilarious time. No kissing, no holding hands. He touched my bum briefly on his way to the loo but I still didn't get the impression he would call or was that keen.

We were married 8 months later. Smile

pointythings · 21/09/2012 20:49

Our first actual date was an accident - we were friends and pen friends, me living in Holland, him in the UK so I invited him to stay to show him the sights. Had a lovely meal out, went to see Dracula (the Francis Ford Coppola version with Gary Oldman) and ended up snogging.

That was almost 20 years ago, we've been married almost 15 and we still like horror films.

lalalonglegs · 21/09/2012 21:13

He took me to a very stylish (very gay) bar in Soho then onto a pub where the Chemical Brothers were DJ'ing the basement. 17 years later we have three kids [happy] but never go dancing Sad.
