Should I be worried about this?

Just today, I've noticed that when i'm in Hotmail on my laptop, ads are appearing for sites for 'no strings girls, message girls now, girls in brazil want to meet you' etc etc. I am aware that ads on Hotmail are often personalised, according to the sites that you view - for example, if i've been browsing for something online, it will come up in an advert for me.

DH has been using my laptop on and off - as he does from time to time, so I am starting to wonder what he's been looking at online.... Surely he wouldn't look at anything dubious on my laptop? He has his own. Do we think the sudden appearance of these ads means he's definitely been looking at these kind of sites? As far as I can see, nothing's showing up in the browsing history - and surely it would be empty if he'd hit 'Clear History' to cover his tracks?

As background - have been with DH for 12 years, married for 8, two DCs. He's been 100% reliable, trustworthy, solid, decent, great dad etc etc etc thus far.

Any thoughts would be appreciated here. Thank you.

Get a decent fire wall. I used to get adds for school girls and horses Hmm I can quite assure you I am not into, nor ever researched paedophilic bestiality.

izzyizin · 08/09/2012 20:36

Does he delete the history after he's used your laptop?

kittyandthegoldenfontanelles · 08/09/2012 20:39

Jumping- you used to get ads for schoolgirls? Really? What, like, here's a schoolgirl, do ya want her? Really? Bloody hell.

CoffeeMum · 08/09/2012 20:39

MoreHoops - that's awful Shock Can't believe that something so dicey could end up on your laptop unsolicited. Maybe i'm naive!

izzyizin - no, doesn't delete his history - well, if I go to that pull down menu which shows all the sites you visit, I can see all my usual sites going back months and months, so I assume he hasn't deleted anything, or my stuff would be wiped, no? He doesn't have a separate login or anything. And as i say, he has his own laptop AND phone with internet, so I can only think that if he was 'up to no good', he'd do it on those - I don't have access to either of them.

Thanks for replies Smile

customised ads info

I clicked on a further info thing in my hotmail account. It was under an ad for boots and clothes Blush

Sorry OP. It appears to be not quite random. And I think you can delete items in history one-by-one?

CoffeeMum · 08/09/2012 21:14

I read that message too....but i did notice that it said 'a portion' of ads are personalised which made me wonder how you know which are, and which aren't.

For example, i'm also seeing ads for BT Broadband, but then I suppose that would be a very generic kind of advert for any internet user. But now I think about it, the vast majority of the other ads do seem to be aimed at me Sad

I think I have to assume that something fishy is going on. But what to do now? Surely if I just ask him, he'll deny it. And why not just do it on his own laptop.

interesting that you can delete history item-by-item - i didn't know you could do that...

Thanks for replying

I'm sorry, coffeemum. I'd just confront I think. If targeted adverts are true then I suppose he can't deny it can he? I'm sorry. Good luck.

I get adverts for payday loans in US dollars. I'm not American and have never had a pay day loan. Neither has/is DP?

Hotmail isn't entirely random but companies you've given your email address to can share information with complete ransoms.

It is a huge leap to thnk google search history has affected your email. There is nothing to suggest DH has been up to anything!
