Ordering from waterstones and my lying, cheating ex

Short version, ex DH had an affair with OW from Solihull.

Found out on Xmas day, split and divorced. We have only recently begun talking to each other again. We had a long discussion last week about the affair and ex assured me that I knew everything (including that he hadn't seen this women since the July only phone contact).

Just going through bank statements trying to sort out what day I started being paid my Income Support do I can apply for a budgeting loan. And there on the 16th December is waterstones.com Solihull.

Just spoken to him and he swears blind he hasn't been there. So unless that's always the bank statement entry for waterstones he's obviously still lying.

Any thoughts? I have googled and can't see any reason why it would say that on the bank statement.

Has anyone got any statements they could check through for waterstones purchases?

Waterstones book depot address is:
6-7 Cooper's Square
Burton-on-Trent
STAFFORDSHIRE
DE14 1DF
Tel:

I notice that they're flogging off selling 50 Shades of Shite at the reduced price of £4.99 but why pay to read shite when you can hear it free from a lying twunt?

PrincessFiorimonde · 17/07/2012 00:55

If you Google 'Waterstone's Solihull head office', you also come across a few people on LinkedIn who work or worked in IT just such a place.

But of course the question of where Waterstone's has its head office(s) is just a minor point among everything going on for you, OP.

Best of luck to you.

pippibluestocking · 17/07/2012 00:56

Princess is right, there does seem to be 2 head offices, one in Brentford, one in Solihull

WhereYouLeftIt · 17/07/2012 00:56

OP, I have just checked my credit card statement, as I ordered a book from Waterstones online last week. The entry on my account reads

WATERSTONES.COM SOLIHULL GB

It looks to me that this entry on your statement is for a purchase made online.

izzyizin · 17/07/2012 02:05

The company founded by Tim Waterstone was sold to W H Smith in 1993 and again to EMI in 1998 at which time it was placed under the umbrella of HMV whose head office is in Solihull.

Waterstones' HR, finance, commercial, marketing & ecommerce operation & IT division are based in its Solihull offices as distinct from its Solihull retail store.

A couple of years ago EMI sold Waterstones to a Russian billionaire who, IMO, could at least have the decency to ensure that any item purchased online from his acquisition shows as a debit to Moscow and not the sodding amorphous mass that is Solihull.

Given the possibility, albeit slim, that WYLI is your ex being mischievous* a phone call or 10 to the company in question should resolve any lingering uncertainty in this matter.

Personally speaking, I don't accept the word of proven liars without proof positive of the veracity of any statement they make and if you didn't get a book from your lying ex for Christmas, Pantone, I'd conclude suspect that the ow did.

*no offence intended if you're not WYLI - and every offence intended if you are Grin

It sounds quite feasible that he's telling the truth - in this instance. However, I would definitely not apologise - he brought this mistrust on himself and has to live with it. End of.

Would you consider getting back with him? For what little it's worth... I think you would be mad to. You have done the hard part - made the break and learnt to live without him. You'd never trust him and life would be miserable... but that's just my unasked for 2p worth!!

izzyizin · 17/07/2012 03:23

Feasible for a proven liar with a vested interest in getting back with his ex to tell the truth without thumbscrews or a shot of Pentothal? Hmm My jury's out on that one, Chipping.

Having whiled away more than a few minutes slaving over a hot laptop in a quest for the truth in this matter, I've come late to the realisation that for you to spot 'Solihull' next to a transaction made a mere 9 days or so before your momentous discovery and so soon after you have resumed talking to your lying ex is a sign; an omen, a warning from planet providence to be on your guard.

On reading the entrails of your gutted marriage, the message is that you'll never be able to trust him again and you'd be a fool to think any differently.

OfflineFor30Years · 17/07/2012 06:50

The accounts office for Waterstones is in Solihull - is this the link?

OfflineFor30Years · 17/07/2012 06:50

Sorry, just read the thread and someone else has mentioned that already. I have actually been in that office so I know it exists!

Lueji · 17/07/2012 07:24

I'm in the field of: does it matter?

He cheated, you get rid, and you clearly don't trust him (why should you?).

My ex didn't cheat on me, but regarding what he is done I'd never trust him not to do it again and that was the end.

What would you gain by taking him back?

Gay40 · 17/07/2012 08:40

I'm in the field of: if there isn't an immediate reasonable, rational and calm explanation, then something fishy is afoot.

Tokamak · 17/07/2012 08:54

I've bought a fair amount of stuff online from Waterstones and it always says Solihull on the bank statement. I've never set foot in the place.

As everyone else has said, though, it's not important. He's a cheating prat and you're well rid.

MagicDougal · 17/07/2012 09:04

Just checked on line as I buy lots from Waterstones.

The books I bought at my local branch show the branc I went to.

The ones I bought on line show Waterstones.Com.Solihull. I have never been to Solihull in my life.

PooPooInMyToes · 17/07/2012 09:09

I wouldn't bother apologizing to him though. He's hardly earned your trust.

Stonefield · 17/07/2012 11:26

Not that it helps or stops him being a liar but
Waterstones Head Office is split, half is in London and half is in Solihull. Solihull handles all the financial admin and stuff like that, so a dot com receipt will trace back to Solihull.
(I work for Waterstones)

KirstyWirsty · 17/07/2012 11:45

It doesn't really matter does it - you don't trust him - sounds like you are well rid

Quite a bit taken, actually izzy - Pantone363 did ask in her OP "Has anyone got any statements they could check through for waterstones purchases?" so that was what I was doing. Hmm

Pantone363 · 17/07/2012 22:40

I really appreciate you checking.

Quick apol to ex, he had the good grace not to be smug. Still a twat though.
