Refuge's new video - a make-up 'tutorial'

KateMumsnet · 04/07/2012 22:35

As you probably know, we try to support Refuge, who help those who've experienced domestic violence, whenever we can. They've got a really powerful new video campaign out - it's a 'tutorial' from make-up artist and blogger Lauren Luke. Do have a look, and share far and wide if you can on Facebook, Twitter (#dontcoveritup) etc. And please, do tell us what you think here on the thread.

Thanks

God that's made me cry. Very good.

Alambil · 04/07/2012 23:10

was that make-up or is she speaking out about her experiences too?

good video though

Springhasarrived · 04/07/2012 23:14

Very good. It made me jump when the door banged.

rhoobabble · 05/07/2012 09:51

is it real?

spooktrain · 05/07/2012 10:51

so chilling

TheHappyHissy · 05/07/2012 17:47

Thank you, thank you THANK YOU for posting this thread MNHQ!

boohoohoo · 05/07/2012 18:06

Wow, that made me cry, so powerful.

SerialKipper · 05/07/2012 18:17

Might be better if there were actual phone numbers or names of orgs to call / google later either on the vid or on the YouTube blurb? I know there are a couple of links to click, but more ways to contact won't hurt. (Unless they think it will turn off their target audience to have what's going on named or labelled.)

HecateHarshPants · 05/07/2012 18:55

That made me go so cold. It was very powerful.

I agree that it needed phone numbers/further support at the end.

AnyFucker · 05/07/2012 19:17

thanks for posting this, HQ

Sandalwood · 05/07/2012 20:51

That's really good.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/07/2012 13:33

Really good campaign. I shuddered when the door banged.

I hope that people see it who might not be looking for it as well.

If it's you covering it up, there are people out there who love you and will help you:

That's a very chilling video.

Sadly these boards have witnessed numerous women trying to get through over days and at least two women and their children that I can think of who were put in a B&B because their local refuge was full. Sad

Think more resources to cope with the women who do seek help is what's needed most.

Memoo · 07/07/2012 14:22

That is so powerful. My stomach actually did a flip at the end when she hears he's come home. So sad.

McChops · 09/07/2012 13:21

Wow....that made me tearful. Having been a victim of domestic violence my self I could 100% identify with it. It is hard hitting and thought provoking. I truly hope it helps someone/many victims come forward and make some changes!

southlundon · 09/07/2012 13:50

Posted onto FB.

TodaysAGoodDay · 09/07/2012 20:04

OMG I have goosebumps. Thank you KateMN for posting that. Having been in Refuge I can identify with the woman in the video, especially when she realises her NSDP is home. She looks terrified, which is how it feels. A very well made video, scarily true.

TodaysAGoodDay · 09/07/2012 20:13

I have posted it on my FB page as well.

OhDearNigel · 10/07/2012 03:11

Really brought a tear to my eye.

I will share this at work on Wednesday (we work with DV victims going through court).

LineRunner · 11/07/2012 21:38

Lauren Luke's a bloody good actor. Well done. Awesome.

caramelwaffle · 16/07/2012 23:26

So sad, but powerful.

ElephantsCanRemember · 16/07/2012 23:35

That is a such a powerful video. Reminds me of my mum trying to cover up her bruises with thick make up Sad
Is there a renewed surge on publicising DV at the moment? Because I go to the cash point and I am met with an advert on the screen about seeking help for DV, on our local radio it feels like every other advert is about seeking help. I think it is great, but I hadn't noticed it before.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 18/07/2012 20:21

Wow.

DH got really confused by this, I don't think he had ever heard of lauren.

Powerful stuff

LineRunner · 19/07/2012 20:48

I showed it my my 14 year old son. He was very moved by it. He hadn't heard of Lauren Luke either.
