I finally spoke up and said how I felt,
I've never done it before, it's taken me ten years to just stop nodding and agreeing with my mil,,
I feel so much better, but a little bad too,
has anyone on here spoken up to there in laws?
I don't think she'll ever be the same with me again.

Congratulate yourself for sticking up for yourself.

Not in-laws but parents... friends... colleagues... anyone really. Used to care what others thought and wanted them to like me. Now I don't care, as long as they're not in my face any more :) I warn you, once you find your voice, it's very liberating!!!

I am about the only person in the family who will stand up to my FIL. He can be a bit of a right wing bstrd, and does nothing but complain. Far from causing a problem we now have a healthy respect for each other and he is much more measured in what he says.
