The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Are Going To Need A Bigger Bus!

Mouseface · 11/05/2012 11:54

Which is FANTASTIC! Smile

Welcome to the Brave Babes Battle Bus, I'm Mouse and I'm addicted to cheese, but have a pretty nasty relationship with alcohol too, mainly vodka.

This Bus is for anyone and everyone. Drinking or sober, or somewhere in between or just not sure if you're drinking too much........... this is the place to ask and maybe have a chat too.

No pressure, no judging, no cliquey savoury flans (although I'm rather partial to a cheese slice Wink), we're all on The Bus for the same reason; alcohol.

Even if it's not you, and you'd like to talk about someone you know, come and say hi. We won't bite, well, not unless you ask very nicely! Grin

And, if you'd like to see our journey so far, follow THIS LINK and read back through the previous links there.

See you soon Smile xx

Saf - it was the second seasson, you recorded it off FX I think? After the one I watched from Monday on Channel 5, I recognised the next episode to be screened. Where the little boy (Karl) gets shot and the vet saves him, eventually.

And YES!!! I thought exactly that last night, 'little women stay behind and cook for your man folk, now ya'all hear' Hmm WFT? Fuck right off, give me a gun and count me in on the shooting of the Walking Dead! Grin

Bath sounds like a great idea. I may have one after my Menalist fix. Oooooh, Simon Baker! Grin Your dinner sounds fab, I am in a picky mood tonight. Smile

Chasing - pain relief although they don't really work any more so I have to go back and see what my pain specialist says in July. Yes, you read that correctly, Jufeckinly. That's the soonest he can see me as an Urgent Case. Hmm

I'm on Oramorph in between the MST but will ask about Fentanyl that a couple of Babes have mentioned.

Right, time to decide what to eat and hope it stays down.

Stay Brave Babes :) xx

I've just been to the pub and had a TONIC water! I wouldn't have thought it possible. I couldn't have done it without the support on here. Thank you everyone.

I'm just back from the supermarket with lots of tomato juice, tonic water and shloer :). That should see me through the evening :)

Mouseface · 18/05/2012 19:40

Chasing - sorry, re-read your post. I find that they make me want to sleep if I take them in the afternoon but then again, I try to take them on a fuller stomach so that's when I feel sleepy.

If I take them on an empty stomach, I feel dreadful and I'm wondering it that's what's make me sick, two afternoons on the run now.

They certainly helped with the pain to start but I couldn't say about the depression because I was on Citalopram up until a few weeks ago. I was on them for anxiety and panic attacks.

I found Fluxetine didn't do zip for me, not even on a higher dose. Keep an eye on your moods, eat before you take them, lots and lots of water.

Don't drink on them either if you are taking them at night, you'll pass out! Seriously, I was first prescribed them for pain at night and before I stopped drinking, I'd just pass out, bolt upright and still waffling on to DH.

I'm on 25mg, 3 times a day. What are you on? Keep a diary maybe of any odd feelings, emotionally and physically. If you're not sure, just PM me for a chat, I'm always happy to help if I can lovely. xx

I just wanted to add to all of you who are days, weeks, months and years into your sobriety, WELL DONE nothing can be more rewarding, knowing that you have done that, because you wanted to. I feel very honoured to be in amongst you all. Smile xx

Nice one Casa!!! Not an easy thing to do on a Friday night when the world around you is wanting to get hammered.

Enjoy your evening. xx

mouse given the half lives etc there is absolutely no point in splitting the amyl - just take the 75mg at night and it will help you sleep. it's given to people with ME/CFS in small doses to take at night because it supposedly improves sleep quality - there's also much to suggest that that is a big part of why ad's in general work on depression (addressing sleep stuff). i know someone else on it for migraines and another person on it for eye pain - it gets around!

you're right - i must have just finished season 3 and be waiting for four then! sorry. we only watched from the karl shooting one onwards i think as i'd deleted the rest.

i rarely feel like anything to drink now other than tea, coffee and water - the fizzy/special/etc drinks need faded fast. i'm totally fixated on eating rather than drinking of an evening now Blush hoping that will wear off too please god.

managed to get my bath in peace. ds is still up but looking very slack jawed and glassy eyed bless him, might let him drop off down here and carry him up. his late night is seriously eating into my ice cream time Hmm Grin

swallowedAfly · 18/05/2012 20:07

(if you are going to split them btw just do one in the morning ((with a big breakfast)) and two at night so you get the sleep boost)

aliasjoey · 18/05/2012 20:12

Evening all, I've managed to get my internet back! mia I'm glad you're still here because I felt a connection with you & your lovely daft dog Smile

Apart from being less anxious the physical benefits of not drinking haven't kicked in yet Hmm I was expecting tons of energy, a new outlook on life, and for people to comment that I looked younger... ! I'm trying to remember the HALT especially tired because thats when my willpower is low.

I was thinking about going a couple of weeks without any alcohol, but it turns out we're going to the in-laws tomorrow. It would be too difficult to avoid there (my MIL would get herself stressed at any of the possible reasons for not drinking) however my rules are going to apply. Last time I struggled with rule 3 - not to carry on drinking after everyone else has gone to bed. I want to be very strong about this.

And I found that soft drinks are so much cheaper than wine £1.66 for a posh bottle of Raspberry and Lemon Soda from M&S. Smile

SadSoma · 18/05/2012 20:22

Blanket what breed is your puppy? Are you home with him/her all day? Truth, yes no drinking tonight I made sure I got absolutely hammered last night and fell down the stairs! Starting the antabuse tomorrow, will take it with my morning cup of tea :) Re: blood tests, just go to your GP and ask for them, mention you're concerned about your drinking levels and you should have no trouble. Why not get your cholesterol checked as well - I never had and was very pleased to find it was normal.

Faire thanks for adding to Hopefully's list and so happy your're all with me.Mouse, June also throws up when she coughs and even burst a blood vessel in her eye once! Always smiling she is, and I'll send her a squish from you. I'm so touched by how you take the time to help me (and others), it helps me imagine a life that can be so much more REAL, even if there are still problems. There's so much to enjoy isn't there? I'm watching a programme about Allegri's Miserere and the music is sublime. I've done a lot of choral singing in the past and would like to take it up again. Hope you're snuggled up and have a good night.

Saf thank you. It's nice to just graze and find this and that to do. So cute that DS still wants to get into the bath with you. Make the most of it, DD gets hysterical now if I even see her in her underwear! Sarah you sound so content, an inspiration. Mia thanks for the camera tips and how marvellous to find such an ancient tree. Have a good Friday evening all. And it is just another night and waking up hangover-free on Saturday is priceless! xx

chasingtail · 18/05/2012 20:41

Soma - best of luck with the Antabuse. I really hope it does everything you hope it will & please keep us posted with lots of progress reports.

Made me chuckle when you mentioned what you're watching - I'm sat here watching season 6 of Sex and The City (again)!!! Real cultured me! Grin

SadSoma · 18/05/2012 20:48

But I watch Sex & the City too! And the Voice!

Tristessa · 18/05/2012 20:56

I have used my wine money for restylane dermal fillers. Wasn't expecting to be stabbed today - thought it was just a consultation. Just as well considering how sodding painful it was Shock

Then again - the effect is BLOODY BRILLIANT! Grin Grin Grin

Glad you have the antabuse Soma and sorry to hear about your U.D.Is. Hope you feel better soon.

Wishing everyone a lovely Friday night x

Silver66 · 18/05/2012 21:11

time is very short now - from what the MacMillan nurse has said. I feel very spaced - not quite connecting with reality.

Can't really say anymore than that.

New Babes not in the picture - my Mum is dying from terminal cancer.

even in these darkest moments, this is the place I know I feel safe, and it is where I will come for support.

You babes are the best xxxxxxxxxxxxx

thurso1 · 18/05/2012 21:18

Sending my love Silver xxx

Fairenuff · 18/05/2012 21:19

Oh Silver I am so, so, sorry ((()))

Have you been able to spend some time with her, to speak with her and tell her you love her, to just sit with her and find a moment of peace together? I do hope so. Will light a little candle for you and your mum this evening x

chasingtail · 18/05/2012 21:23

Silver, there are no words. Xxxxxx

Tristessa · 18/05/2012 21:25

So sorry, Silver...

Thanks

Sarah I do love a few weeds! I subscribe to the lazy arse let it all grow and see whether the flowers are pretty wildlife friendly school of gardening. Wink

Chasing said "I have been on Fluoxetine for 3 years for dep but seems to be no longer working. Don't feel down as such, just on a very short string - the slightest thing seems to have me snapping at nearest & dearest. Sadly being sober seems to have had little affect on my general mood in that respect."
That's exactly how I feel at the moment Chasing, except I take citalopram. So cross and strung tight with a hair trigger temper - keeping a lid on it so I'm not being a monster to those around me is fucking exhausting. Sad

Soma I'm glad you're all set for the antabuse, and also that you had a frank chat with your Dmum. We watched nothing so cultured ont' telly tonight - 24 hours in A&E (bloody brilliant series), modern family and now HIGNFY.

NonAstemia · 18/05/2012 21:29

Bloody hell cross posted.

Silver I'm so very sorry to hear that. I hope your mum is as comfortable as possible, and that you have said everything that you need to say to each other.

Hopefullyrecovering · 18/05/2012 21:33

Oh Silver, I am so sorry :(

Have you left anything unsaid? Has she? Is there anything she would like that would bring her any comfort?

Silver66 · 18/05/2012 21:34

Thank you lovely ladies. Bed now. May be a lot to deal with in the next few days .........

N

SadSoma · 18/05/2012 21:38

Hopefully sorry to be an antabuse bore but I'm getting really paranoid about all the skin/haircare products that seem to contain some sort of alcohol. Should they be avoided and if so, what on earth do you use? Tx

Hopefullyrecovering · 18/05/2012 21:42

Hello Soma. Don't worry about any of that. Deodorants and skincare products can cause a reaction (usually a rash) in a tiny tiny minority of people who take Antabuse. Just try your normal products. I was a bit nervous about mouthwash, but it's been fine.

Watch out for the tiredness though, and do let me know how it affects you. Would be interesting to compare.

dementedma · 18/05/2012 21:45

oh silver my friend.
thinking of you and you mum. amd praying for a gentle passing onto the next level.
i am running the Race for Life on Sunday - I will add you to the names on my shirt and hold you in my heart.

SadSoma · 18/05/2012 21:45

Thanks for answering so quickly - I've been madly going through my stuff and thinking I can't use any of it! You're reassurred me and am prepared (I think) for the tiredness. At least it'll be better than that horrible hangover tiredness. You did say it seemd to improve after a couple of weeks? Good to have a fellow-user on here who seems to happy with it. God bless you! x

swallowedAfly · 18/05/2012 21:49

silver i'm so sorry. as grim as this may sound can you somehow let her know that it's ok to go if she wants to? have seen it with a couple of relatives that they seemed to hear that. just to be at peace knowing you're ok with them letting go. sorry if that's an inappropriate thing to say.

we will all be here. i'm really ill-equipped as i haven't lost a parent so can only imagine x
