Empty nest - period of readjustment

DS2 (19) left home yesterday to start his course. DS1 left years agon to go to Uni and then came back for a couple of years, but has since finally flown the nest and got his own place.

Thing is, DH and I have never lived together without children (DS1 was a toddler when we got together and DH has brought him up as his biological father split the scene).

My take on this is that it could be lovely - like a love affair. DH is worried that I will think its time to move on as I have no commitments Hmm. We both think we need a period of readjustment together to work out what our life might look like in this next phase.

Anyone else been through this and what did you do? We have a time consuming shared hobby and spend a lot of time together when we're not working.

This hasn't happened to me yet although my dss are 17 and 18 so it coud be looming! I would miss my 2 ds but in other ways I can't wait! Just us two, with ourselves to think of. I have friends who have got to this stage and left the marriage, thinking the grass is greener. I don't envy any of them. It is our silver wedding anniversary in 5 years time and although we will go away before then, we are already planning to go to Hawaii for a month, which is what we did for our honeymoon. Dh works away a bit and when he is home we are together a lot, but I work parttime, go to the gym, swim , see my mates so on, then we have a nice meal in the evening, glass of wine. One of my ds has been quite hard work so it would be great to have a bit of time to travel, which is what we love, while we are still relatively young!
