Please tell me what do 34 year old single mummies do with a free friday night?
My children are sleeping at their nans this evening.
All my friends have husbands/boyfriends and are all loved up spending their evening in or out with them.
I get a little lonely at times but on nights like this I feel more alone.
How does one get themselves a life so to speak :) ??

I love childfree time! have v little of it but most Fridays I have a glass of wine, dvd, book etc - time off, just to end the week
And if I am childfree and can go out, I arrange to see friends - since it only happens twice a year I usually get quite booked up! last holiday I booked myself into a b&b on my own for a weekend, it was fab
but I am ten years older than you and was pleased to see chicken's strikeout about staying in, cos that sums up my attitude entirely!
I wouldn't worry about going into a pub on my own if I felt the urge.

happyhappymummy · 20/04/2012 19:14

Fair play akaemmafrost, hes a lucky lucky man :)
Aww littleorno, we all have a little cry sometimes. Its so hard at times. Of course things get better if you think positive :)
I wouldnt like to go to the pub and have a soft drink either. I will have 2 for you ;) have a lovely evening :)

I could have wrote this!! just dropped dc off at their dads, only third time I think he's had them properly (been ex for three years though!!) and I do t k ow what to do! have been at work all day so bath and bed with film does sound good... but im 34 not 74!!
none of my friends live round here so no one to go out with :(

sandyboots · 20/04/2012 20:10

how about that meetup website? tons of groups and social things on. cinema on own with loads of popcorn/sweets or go to a gym or leisure centre

izzyizin · 20/04/2012 20:36

Go and have a quick one at your local, Tolly - you can have the bath, bed & film when you get home.

ballroomblitz · 20/04/2012 20:54

I would have either:
Gone round to my mate's/heading to the pub with her and drank some wine
Nipped to mum's for a chat and drank some wine
Sat in the house and pampered myself, stuffed my face with junk, watched dvds/ internet/ read a book and generally enjoyed the peace and quiet - and drank some wine.
Occassionally I did the Tescos shopping

I'm now with dp and I still enjoy Friday nights in by myself, like tonight. Ds is packed off to exp and I have the house to myself, minus the wine as I'm pregnant. I'm a bit of an introvert so happy enough in my own company and I start to feel suffocated if I don't have time to myself.

As I had visions of you submersed in bubbles until your skin wrinkled, I'm suitably relieved to learn you had a good time last night.

However, I can't resist banging the drum again by saying that if your pal hadn't been up for a jaunt, you could have gone to see that band all on your lonesome and achieved a similar outcome.

So, did you meet any hot men? Grin

happyhappymummy · 21/04/2012 14:14

Haha :)
Hmm I guess. Would they of spoken to me though if I was some stranger in a bar? Maybe one day izzy ;)
All couples, lovely people.
I was introduced to this one guy and I thought hmm rather yummy. A police officer (I have a thing for the uniform) very chatty and then in walks his wife! Of course she was lovely too :) Are all the good ones taken I ask myself?
Then introduced to another guy (younger) he had a pack of cards and did a couple of card tricks! Well impressed with his little bit of magic!

Sounds like you had a good night. Well done!

likeatonneofbricks · 21/04/2012 14:35

izzy, you get hit on in Cafe Nero? what on earth do you do Grin, am genuinely curoius? it's usually full of people absorbed in their laptops or in a rush to have a coffe (and mainly youngsters) - unless yours is a small town one with a slow pace of life(?)

008 · 21/04/2012 15:32

Brilliant! You did it!
Keep doing it, and you will find that one day there is a band that you want to see and you will just go ...
I promise!

008 · 21/04/2012 15:32

One step at a time ... my single steps started with cinema alone on a Sunday morning and ended up with a diving holiday in a tent on a beach in Egypt ...

Tollysfolly · 21/04/2012 18:33

I went to asda and did my shopping :) early night and a lay in till 8 this morning!!
I do go to the pub for an hour by myself during the week whilst ds2 is at beavers, take a book and sit there by myself. as its 6.30 to 7.30 it's not packed and has got me used to walking in a pub by myself. as yet to actually speak to anyone but the barman in there however they are all old boys when I go in.

hello izzy :) I wondered what other thread you were talking about!

Tollysfolly · 21/04/2012 18:34

quite jealous you stayed out till that time though happy happy mummy! and got to see a band too!

springaroundthecorner · 21/04/2012 19:09

Can I use this thread to ask for a bit of advice? I'm on my own too and the best social life round here is in the next village. I am friendly with another single Mum in that village. I have been to the pub there with her twice. Both times I have asked her to go and I believe we had a nice time.

Earlier this week I asked her if she was going to be at the Craft Fair on Sunday. She said yes, she was and that it was also Beer Festival in the pub Friday and Saturday night. I said thats sounds fun would you text me when you are going down to the pub? (We have done that before). I just knew after I said it that she wasnt going to. Within minutes I was leaving her company and she said see you next week? I didnt even feel at that point that I could say well, no hopefully one evening in the pub! Its not something I feel I could do on my own and I dont know anyone else there other than people she has introduced me to once. I am happy enough to go into a pub on my own with a book but not into a rowdy beer festival atmosphere. I think you need a companion for that.

I am totally mystified. Why did she bring the subject up of the beer festival if she didnt want me to go? She has even suggested I move to her village and suggested the house next to her is available! I see her once a week at a class we both go to.

Would you let it pass? I am tempted to say something when I see her next week.

ImperialBlether · 21/04/2012 21:06

Are you prettier than she is?

springaroundthecorner · 21/04/2012 21:26

Grin Well you've cheered me up about it anyway, ImperialBlether.

May be she has bloke in mind to pursue this weekend doesnt want me in the way? Hmm

happyhappymummy · 22/04/2012 07:53

wolvesdidit.. thanks :-)
008.. Thanks and Wow well done you! :-)
Tollysfolly.. Thanks and glad you had a nice lie in, they are rare in my house, so appreciate them when I get them.
