Can relationships work living apart?

Im a single mum of 3 and I have met a guy through a friend who is also a single dad of 3.
We live about an hour apart. He has his home, job and life where he is from and I have mine where I live.
Can this work? Can people live like this and have a relationship? Maybe Im thinking to much in to the future as its early days, but the longer it goes on the more your feelings grow right? I dont want to set myself up for heartache!

any relationship can work if you both want it to. Just make sure you are both making equal effort.

Yes it can definitely! I'd say the distance would be more of an issue for me not the living apart bit, but if you or he drives or has access to decent transport links then it will be harder than if he were round the corner but it can work.

It works for us. I live 1 1/2 hours from my partner. We have been together for about 18 months and have no plans to move in together as we both have children settled in school. I also think it is better for the children not to be up rooted and thrown together under one roof for our convenience. We talk at least everyday and see each other every week.

I cant imagine we will actually live together until all our children leave home, but I expect we will still be a couple.

As long as you want the same things it can work. Just relax and see where it goes.

Yes definitely! Be very clear on what suits you and if he is on the same page, all the better. What's not to like about that setup imo?!

I guess theres not much not to like I just kinda miss the whole being together, not being able to pop in for coffee, a big manly hug when you have had a bad day or a good day?? Someone to wake up to! Maybe you have to weigh it up.

Hashope, the things is, the having someone to wake up to will come at a huge price for your children, there's six of them in the equation. Perhaps one or both of you have ex's who take the children some of the time though, in which case a long weekend might not be out of the question.

I live separately from my husband for part of the week, for work reasons, I find it fine as it allows you to get on with the week with school and work and then enjoy the weekends. I think the ideal cosy relationship you are perhaps fantastising about isn't going to exist with six children to take into account anyway!

I have every other weekend free as my children go to their dads.
Sadly his wife died 8 years ago.
Im not sure there will be an opportunity for weekend breaks.
