Facebook relationship statuses

I know, very petty in the grand scheme of things. But would it bother you if your better half won't display "A is in a relationship with B?". Are there time lines to when this "official" status gets displayed?

No. But then again I probably wouldn't display my relationship status either, unless I was married.

WaitingForMe · 30/03/2012 08:05

Yes I think it would.

Silly as it sounds because DH and I had tiny ceremony, when we were having drinks we updated our status to married. We had all our friends coming for a party at our house that night and it was a way to let them know.

In itself it's unimportant but I'd wonder why someone didn't want it known.

WaitingForMe · 30/03/2012 08:06

Each of our status's. We aren't one of those crazy couples that share a Facebook account!

ameliagrey · 30/03/2012 08:10

FB is for youngsters.

Why worry?

I reveal as little as possible on social networking sites because all that evidence is being stored and used ...

If this is a matter of trust and commitment you ned to tackle that.

tabulahrasa · 30/03/2012 08:23

I know it shouldn't be an issue, but when my DP joined facebook and didn't get round to doing it for ages it really bugged me.

I've no idea why really as we've been together 17 yrs, lived together for 15 of those and have 2 DC - he only had about 10 people on his facebook and I knew them all, so it's not like there was any reason for it to bother me.

But it really did after a while, lol

nizlopi · 30/03/2012 08:33

I suppose it depends why he doesn't want to display it. If he uses facebook loads and doesn't want people knowing he's in a relationship, then yeah, you have a problem, but if he just doesn't really care (like me and my husband) then its not really a big deal.

JeffTracy · 30/03/2012 09:11

Seriously? Hmm

ToastofWar · 30/03/2012 09:15

DH is not of FB.

When I joined, I forgot to put that I was married.

When I remembered and changed it, after about 6 months, I was getting messages saying 'Congrats'. I had been married for 10 years at that pointHmm.

akaemmafrost · 30/03/2012 09:24

It wouldn't bother me. Maybe I would prefer it if it didn't say "so and so is SINGLE" because they're not, just saying nothing at all would be fine by me.

CharminglyOdd · 30/03/2012 09:32

Not really. When I was single I didn't have anything showing was quite touchy and when I got together with DP nearly three years ago I thought about it a lot. I came to the conclusion that I'd rather leave it blank: the people who matter know that we're together and the people who don't matter either a) won't be looking at my facebook anyway because it's private or b) are old acquaintances who don't need to know, I mean why would they?

If your DP won't change his status from 'Single' then that's another matter entirely, he is being unreasonable.

StateofConfusion · 30/03/2012 09:37

Yes it would bother me, me and dp have been on facebook since it started --as we were still in school-- and have always been listed as in a relationshop, he de-regged thanks to a row recently and seeing my info change to no longer in a relationship upset me, stupid yes, he has since re-joined.

SardineQueen · 30/03/2012 09:43

When we both had facebooks they were both blank on that bit
Now it's just me and it's still blank
Anyone who is of any importance knows that DH and I are in a relationship Grin

CarpeJugulum · 30/03/2012 09:45

I updated my status when DH joined so we were linked.

I got a few looks of Hmm from friends as we'd been married for 11 years at this point. Grin

Bucharest · 30/03/2012 09:50

The only time it would bother me would be if he put he was single.

AwkwardMary · 30/03/2012 09:55

I won't put up my status as married to DH and he doesnt either...it's silly! All our friends KNOW we're married...and we are only "friends" with friends!

WineGoggles · 30/03/2012 10:24

Much as I don?t have particular interest in FB, I thought there was something rather sweet about my DP being proud to announce he?s with me. If he had kept his status as ?single? I would?ve wondered why. But it?s stupid really because if all our friends know we?re together what?s the problem?that?s the logical thought though, not the emotional one.

HepHep · 30/03/2012 12:29

I got myself in a tizz about this recently. The person I was seeing preferred to leave it blank, I really wanted to put that we were together because I was proud and happy and wanted to share it. I started worrying that they were ashamed of me :( or wanted to be left free to appear single and thus flirt their way around the site unhindered.
We talked about it after we split up and both agreed we should have discussed it at the time instead of me feeling a bit hurt by the whole thing.

Kaluki · 30/03/2012 12:47

It would bother me tbh. I know FB is the work of the devil and not real life etc but I would question why he didn't want to.

I love that DP and I have that on our status - I'm proud to be "in a relationship" with him and don't care who sees it.

first1 · 30/03/2012 16:21

Well he turned off "single" to just nothing. Neither of us display anything relationship status wise but I'd love to secretly Blush
