Seeking a Good Family Lawyer

The4Muskateers · 20/02/2012 13:49

Dear All,

This is my first post here and thought it may be a good place to get recommendations for a good family laywer local to the SE20 area of London.

I am currently looking to divorce my husband who has been having an affair and has walked out on me and my children, one of which is a newborn.

I have a solicitor who I have concerns with and I am now looking for an alternative.

Can anyone please help and supply me with any good recommendations?

If you don't get any word-of-mouth recommendations, this is a good place to start:
www.resolution.org.uk/

I'd also urge you to read up as much as you can:

Hello LemonStarTree,

Thanks for your response. I am new to Mumsnet and this message board so excuse my ignorance, but what is CAT?

Perhaps LST is referring to a 'pm' (personal mail)?

Click on your mumsnet inbox at the top of the page to send them a message.

Although Kingston is a bit of a hike from SE20 it's always worth travelling for the 'right' solicitor and once you've had your first consultation these matters are usually conducted by phone and email so you're unlikely to spend much time visiting their offices.

However, do check whether any solicitor recommended to you offers a free half an hour initital consultation otherwise you may rack up a considerable sum while endeavouring to find one that you have confidence in.

My Mum is using a highly recommended lawyer Julian Ribet www.levisonmeltzerpigott.co.uk/JulianR.htm

I used to work for Hanne & Co in Clapham Junction and their family department was excellent - www.hanne.co.uk

Julian does seem like a great lawyer but I am assuming that a great lawyer means big bucks??? I have been on a career break for the last 5 years raising my children so funds are short. Without prying too much do you know what the usual fees he works to?

Hanne & Co also seem like good lawyers so worth checking out as they don't appear to be too far.

Thanks for your help!
