sex has been painful through out. Is this normal?

Im 22 weeks pregnant and sex has been really painful pretty much since about 8 weeks. Before I got pregnant, me and my husband had an amazing sex life and both had very high sex drives. Since being pregnant I still have my very high sex drive, am VERY attracted to my husband, but I dont want sex as I know how painful its going to be.
I have read up on it, but everything I have read says about sex being painful around the vagina, but im not getting any pain here. Im getting pain inside, only way of describing it is; it feels like he is so far inside me, the pain is in my tummy.
Any help or advice please.
Thanks.

I'm no expert but I did have similar when pregnant, have you been getting any light spotting too? Not enough to worry you but there after sex.

They told me I had an irritable cervix. But please, mention it to your midwife, embarrassing as it might be, in case it's something else.

Pain isn't normal - its a warning sign ( don't panic, please!)

Thanks for your reply! i'm not panicking!!! No spotting, no other symptoms at all. Just really painful in my tummy during sex. Without meaning to sound crude - the pain stops as soon as we stop!
Luckily I have a very supportive husband who is being brilliant!
Im going to my midwife next week so will mention it then - unless anyone comes back with something to make me panic! ;)

Definitely get it checked out.

He's probably just hitting different spots with the baby changing the shape of you etc.

Is he big?

sonicrainboom · 24/01/2012 16:20

Do you hurt even when you have non-penetrative sex?

kodachrome · 24/01/2012 16:58

Do other things.

jenjen88 · 25/01/2012 13:44

muffyvampirelayer - your comment made me laugh! You're very blunt!!! Yes he is, but it has never hurt like this before.

sonicrainboom - No, its just during sex.

kodachrome - we have done 'other stuff' and massages etc, its just I still want to have normal sex!

I was just worried as I cant seem to find anywhere about getting pains in your tummy during sex. Will talk to my midwife next week and see what she says.

Thanks everyone.

maybe it's braxton hicks contractions?
they are supposed to be painless but they're not always?
intercourse can trigger them.

jenjen88 · 30/01/2012 17:52

Hi everyone - sorry, I have been away.

I know i'm a first time mom but, aren't contractions meant to hurt down there, not in your tummy?!!

Also GP surgery has rung me to say my midwife can not see me until 15th feb. Do you think i should ring her, make an app with my GP, or just wait till then?
