People who know how to spell wont suddenly NOT spell correctly just because they are on the internet, what a strange notion!

berlinnovels · 08/01/2012 20:34

Quint why the Hmm at the coil? I was able to have one fitted despite never having been pregnant; that you have to have been is a myth.

busybusybust · 08/01/2012 20:48

Why are you all being so judgy-pants?

Student nurses now spend their first year at university. How can this have passed you all by!

Coils are no longer the province of the 'mother'.

OP, if you are sure you want to go ahead with this pregnancy - then you really need to start planning for it. You do need to tell your family. And you need to tell your tutor. You can probably defer for a year - but you will need childcare when you return. Congratulations and good luck.

MrsHuxtable · 08/01/2012 20:50

Lol at Mnet Bingo! I thought the same, though...

I had the Mirena coil fitted at 21 without ever having had children as well. So did a lot of other girls I know. I think it's only the old copper coils they like young women to avoid. But that's just by the by.

FrozenChocolate · 08/01/2012 22:12

'Student nurses now spend their first year at university. How can this have passed you all by!'

Well, not in my local university actually.

Wongamum · 08/01/2012 22:20

I became pregnant a few years ago despite having a coil fitted. I didn't suspect anything until I went to my GP with severe pain and bleeding. The pregnancy test was positive and I was referred to EPAU with suspected ectopic pregnancy. I hope all goes well with your pregnancy and course.

Nayy93 · 08/01/2012 22:34

I have bleeding but no pain I have the doctors really baffed lool but they sed my coil is in da wrong place so mayb everyfing will b okayy!

In my uni its 50% practice and 50% theory and right about now I am on placement at North Middlesex University Hospital.

OP posts:
NannyPlumIsMyMum · 08/01/2012 22:44

Are you doing degree or diploma ? What year are you in ? What sort of placement are you on ?
Moving and handling must be quite difficult for you , if you want to keep the baby you need to give serious thought to how you will manage placements ..

Nayy93 · 08/01/2012 22:51

I am in my first year and doing a degree. Moving and handling is not a problem so far its just the fact I'm on my feet all day and I get really dizzy and light headed at times. My bf says I should take it easy I agree with him there is only so much I can do.

OP posts:
NannyPlumIsMyMum · 08/01/2012 23:01

Am concerned that you don't think moving and handling is a problem - as you have already been on placement surely you know moving and handling is part and parcel of any placement .. I'm not just talking about helping old ladies out of chairs .. Moving and handling encompasses all sorts of things .
Are you on placement at the moment ? If not when is your next one and where ?If you answer the question as I asked earlier, I will be able to explain why I'm asking .

LizzieChickens · 08/01/2012 23:01

Your tutors at university will have had experience of this kind of thing before: i.e. dealing with pregnant students or students who are already parents. They'll probably have a set of procedures to follow and may be able to offer you some good support. (My friend was due to give birth at the same time as her final exams! She did very well.)

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 08/01/2012 23:04

OP I forgot to say CONGRATULATIONS too. :)

Grin at the thought of the essay your life depends on. Punctuate this essay... or DIE!

Oh bless you OP

Congratulations and it sounds as though you have your plans sorted re uni and the baby.

Hope all goes well for you and yes it is your life and your decision. Maybe pointing out to your parents that it isn't the end of the world, nor the end of your uni life and career will help. Well done getting a job in this climate too.

Good luck x

trulyscrumptious43 · 08/01/2012 23:30

Phew! I was just reading the thread and thought 'don't tell anyone yet!' so good. Keep it quiet until about 12 weeks. Be mature about it, you're going to be a Mum soon so you have to grow up right now. Hold your head up, do your best for your child and your man. And if there's any pressure from him, stress, nastiness, bad words, don't put up with it or come and tell us about it and we'll sort him out for you. Smile

featherbag · 09/01/2012 00:00

I've only been qualified 2 years, and when I was at uni you got up to a year mat leave from the course, so if you were getting a bursary it continued to be paid for that year, but I know how fast things change! Hope you do well, and congratulations OP, but please never ever use that appalling spelling and punctuation for any piece of writing related to your course or future career, even though I'm sure you're very intelligent (as you must be to have gotten on the course) it makes you come across as rather immature.

katkitya · 09/01/2012 00:13

Please, not on my ward!!! Its so important to use correcting spelling and punctuation. Congrats and Ive seen girls that have done the same but, you need loads of support. Its not going to be easy. Good luck.

nailak · 09/01/2012 00:48

the way people write and language they use in formal setting including assignments, work, interviews etc is different from the language they use colloquially day to day.

on a forum such as this, most people write colloquially the way they write in a day to day manner when communicating with friends, rather then the way they write for formal assessments.

horsetowater · 09/01/2012 01:01

OP's maturity is shown by the fact that she is more concerned about her future and the future of her baby than she is about her spelling.

danceswithyarn · 09/01/2012 01:13

If you are working on a chemo unit, even as a student your ward sister needs to know NOW

These things are not benign to your baby. You need a full risk assessment asap. Even as a student, this will be the remit of your ward manager, you may need to swap placements. It's not just manual handling, think about bedpans for patients on chemo etc...

Everything else, including telling your parents, can wait. This can't.

horsetowater · 09/01/2012 01:15

Good point dances. I was wondering about that too.
