Not sure where else to put this thread, but my first wedding anniversary is coming up in a couple of months and I'd like some ideas please about some nice paper presents. Rough ideas I have so far are:

  1. An old map of the area where we now live in Scotland (he loves old maps).
  1. I've seen online a print you can get made with words of his favourite things here: www.notonthehighstreet.com/morethanwords/product/personalised-dad-loves-typographic-art
  1. Tickets to a gig/band/concert-y thing
  1. Photo of us perhaps from our wedding made into a canvas

Are any of these ideas nice? Or naff and boring?! I know it's a way off, but am going through IVF at the mo, IT'S CHRISTMAAAAASSSSS soon, plus a ton of other stuff going on too!

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you may have! Thanks

Are you sure you've posted on the right board?

The ways things are here it's more likely that you'll be advised to suprise him with an online divorce - which is most probably a cheaper option than those you've come up with and has the advantage of eliminating any future stress occasioned by calling time on your marriage.

However, of your 4 options I would suggest 1 or 2 because unless 3 is a truly amazing experience it will become a transient memory and 4 won't look quite the same split in half if you should need to divide your assets at some future date.

I had a caricature made for my first wedding anniversary. Can't remember where now but I just sent a photo and picked a theme. Very funny the outcome anyways and I thought it was quite original. Was printed on glossy paper which kept in with the paper theme.

My husband plays the guitar, so I got him the sheet music from our first dance. Thoughtful without going crazy on expenditure Smile

i got concert tickets "stereophonics" and gave him them with the CD - he was made up, were on our 4th next (appliance???) and keep with in the themes, we like it, we try and come up with fun things :) leather last year was good ;)

I made DH a picture made of 365 paper hearts and had it framed.

My DH got me a first edition copy of 'gone with the wind' (my favourite book of all time!) for our first anniversary. I got him sone chocolate from hotel chocolat which has nothing to do with paper but I knew he'd love it!

Could you combine the old maps and the hearts idea and name a picture of hearts cut out of maps, each one over places important to you? (where you got married / born / went on honeymoon etc)

upahill · 23/11/2011 17:33

I like your first idea but not your others.

Personally I would have gone with a favourite magazine subscrition but I don't do cliche romantic presents.

Yorky · 23/11/2011 17:59

I think the old map idea is great. On a similar theme my parents have a few old pictures of where they live, sure its from a website - again you could look for places which are special to the 2 of you.

On a similar theme to the caricature idea, one couple I know had profiles/silhouettes done, fairly small but look so effective cut out of black card on white background and facing each other in a double frame.

Now I'm off to google what 7yrs is? Whose idea was a Christmas wedding!!!

wadadlis · 23/11/2011 18:05

Well my DH bought me oven gloves and a chopping board.
Amazingly we are still together, 10 years on...
But he knows NEVER, EVER to buy me that sort of thing again!

MrsCobbit · 23/11/2011 18:25

I gave DH a copy of The Guardian wrapped up......

MajorBaubles · 23/11/2011 19:53

You could buy him a photo album, put a photo of you on your wedding day on the front cover, and leave the rest of the pages blank. Then every year on your anniversary take a picture of the two of you and put it in the album.

Be good to look back on in your old age!

MrsMigginslovespies · 23/11/2011 21:01

Thanks all for the suggestions! Very helpful and I'm now a bit more inspired! I think I may go for the map thing, but will also look at others too.

Thank you again (and sorry if in the wrong thread but couldn't find where else to put it!).
