anyone receive these this Christmas? Did you let on or just say thankyou? Would you tell your partner you wanted to exchange something?

I got the most hideous waist-coat thing from MIL which was too big (not that I'd wear it, ugh) and lucky for her she only spoke to DH on Xmas who lied & said I liked it & it fitted. I might have struggled to lie convincingly myself. God only knows what to do with it.

beansprout · 29/12/2005 20:49

Dh was kind enough to simply offer me the receipt and tell me I could exchange it if I wanted. I did as he is genuinely ok about me doing this. Other relatives - no, just smile nicely and say "thank you".

I asked for a make up case from dh (asked what I wanted0 and got one complete with cheap make up. I actually cried while he was in the shower. How sad a I?

I always use tact if I have ever recieved something I don't like. If clothes then I would find a different reason to have to return it where possible - not fitting in someway, etc. But always with thankyous and smiles

Luckily all my presents were fab!

my mum always took her xmas pressie from my dad back. he always bought her jewellery so she would get a credit note and spend it in the sales. one year she decided she wanted the original present after she had spent the credit note so he had to go and buy it again!

daisy1999 · 29/12/2005 20:55

with dh I just smile and say "thank you very much but I HATE it. Do you mind awfully if I return it?" Even worse I made him return it last year! Luckily he's easy going

I had an ex p who had the most frightful taste. One year he bought me a peach towelling dressing gown (trust me, I am not a peach towelling kind of girl). I missed the moment where I could have said "actually..." and ended up wearing it for 3 years. When we split up I took great joy in chucking it out

We had a bit of a falling out with SIL about 2 years ago, haven't bothered much since, but she turned up on our doorstep on boxing day, flung her arms around DH kissed him and gave us a joint present..........a sex game with with chocolate body paint

DH bouhgt me a Dido belt this christmas. I h... Dido and the belt a bit to boho for me. Luckily he is now used to me asking for the receipt (just think it's such a waste of money as I WON'T wear to please !)

Poor dh this year. He bought me a fake sheepskin type waistcoat/gilet type thing from M&S this year. He had seen some of my friends at the school gates wearing them, and even asked my friends if I would like it.

Unfortuneatly the one he bought was a soft pinky grey colour that look like raw sausages, and I am a bit fat atteh momenet. Once the best was done up, I looked just like a sausgae tied round the middle, so I said it was too small (or rather I was too fat to wear it)

I went into M&S the first day of teh sales (with gift recipt) and changed it for a full length cream fake sheepskin coat - TOTALLY IMPRACTICAL but really fantastic. My kids call it my Snow Queen coat. I love it

Even dh grudgingly said he likes it better and it was 1/2 price, so ended up cheaperthan the waistcoat
