has he deleted google history too?

cloudybay24 · 08/06/2011 22:23

I don't know. When I click on Favourites there's an option to look at today's (and previous day's history). He has deletet it - i know how to do it too, just don't know how to get it back!

the google bar at top of page.....click the down pointing arrow thing...what had he googled?

cloudybay24 · 09/06/2011 09:17

that's the thing - he's been into "Internet Options" and deleted search history, so I don't know. Usually when i go into google loads of stuff drops down, but it had been cleared.
I just wondered if there was a pc boffin out there who can give me instructions to find out?

Have you a good reason to want to find out? Is there something else going on that makes you suspicious of what he's doing?

You could try this wikihow.

Download an index.dat reader. It's not malware and it's really easy to use. HTH.

prh47bridge · 09/06/2011 09:43

Not everyone has the Google toolbar and, in any case, it includes both your previous searches (sometimes) and Google's own suggestions so can be misleading.

If you really feel you need to know I suggest you search the internet for an "index.dat reader" and download a free one (make sure your antivirus software is working before doing this!). This will get information on browsing history from hidden files on your PC that are generally not cleared when browsing history is deleted. This is not fully reliable and the information you get may be unsorted, making it hard to find what happened in the last few days, but it is the safest method I know.

waspbee · 09/06/2011 10:04

delete it from programs when youve used it or he will know what youve been up to!

mimiholls · 09/06/2011 11:39

It's easy. When you delete history, the cookies of all sites visited are still stored on your computer. To find them on firefox: tools>options>privacy>remove individual cookies... a list of cookies will then come up. In Explorer I think they are stored in Temporary Internet files: tools>internet options>settings (under 'browsing history')> view files
He might know how to delete these if he is savvy but often things come through anyway.

SGB I'm not on here for a flaming, I just asked a question.

This is definitley one of those occasions where if you can't say anything constructive or helpful just butt out.

Thanks to other posters for their tips.

Agree with SGB.

If I could be bothered, I'd find one of the other threads where someone's DH has checked their internet history and then accused them of things, and I'd highlight the responses that say "It's none of his business what you're looking at, he's being an idiot".

But I can't be bothered - so just pretend that I have.

RedGreenBlue · 09/06/2011 12:22

xpost.

But nevertheless.

MadAboutHotChoc · 09/06/2011 12:46

I am sure you have a good reason for asking this question.

Does he have a google email account? If so get into it, choose Web, click onto the little wheel at the top and you should be able to find Web History.
