Weird neighbour behaviour keeps me awake!

Got new neighbours downstairs from my flat a couple of months ago. Apparently it is two lads. They've been totally fine most of the time, got no complaints about music or anything. All good.

I can hear them moving about and I'm sure they can hear me, no probs about that but in the last month or so one of them has started slamming and banging doors shut, usually once or twice really loudly, about half an hour after I go to bed. I know that sounds weird but it really is the same time lag every time it happens, no matter what time I go. I have bought earplugs and moved my bed around away from the (partition) walls, but the shudder it makes still wakes me up and it's really annoying.

Last night someone was pacing up and down the long corridor of their apartment, and in and out of rooms, literally all night; they have heavy footfalls and it makes the room above (in my flat) shake, and I actually shake in my bed. Every other minute for a minute or so...ALL night. Couldn't sleep till half three, went into other rooms and same there as they go up and down, woke up at half four and still happening, still going on now.

They also have a punchbag (apparently) which they punch hell out of for ten mins now and again, which makes everythign in the flat shake really loudly.

It seems a really small thing to contact about but both these are bothering me and I really do need to sleep, also have a health condition triggered by lack of sleep.

Should I bother sending a polite note, or get over it? Also, what the hell are they doing (just being nosey now)???

Weirdness continues - more pacing and floor shaking, definitely from their flat, and I can absolutely definitely hear people in the rooms while it happening. It is their playstation vibrating, and the flatmate I haven't met is the one doing it. Flatmate I have spoken to is all nice and co-operative and charming about it, but claims it isn't them. There is nobody in and it's not them! How silly of me!

They are so convincing that I almost feel bad about telling them I'll take it further if they don't STF up, but have to remind myself that they're definitely lying (apparently, I imagined the sound of people walloping the sh* out of a punchbag down there as well). So I have told them.

Have already had to put up wiht drunken swearing partying neighbours (v often, now quiet) and now lying ones who keep me awake all night most nights a week, and pretend they're not. The ones before them played the same dodgy lumbering 70s music at top volume when they were spannered. I just want to sleep!!!

I'm thinking of moving, and renting my flat out, to the heaviest, most nocturnal, most violent Morris dancers I can find.

Thanks for the rant. GRRR!

Do you have any large, scary looking friends? Get one of them to talk to them, all sweetly like you did. I wonder if they may stop then.

I do know a huge rugby player but don't think he'd be up for it. I did send the caretaker round (big and serious looking) but only worked for a bit, and they're fine wiht lying to him as well, so no joy.

Still, thinking about it there have been quite a few nuisance flats over the past year in this building (four at last count) so it's going to be an ongoing pitfall anyway. Might be better off renting it to more thick skinned (also deaf, heavy footed, and bad tempered) than me anyway, just a bit sooner than I'd planned to (b*stard neighbours).
