Hi everyone, just wanted to share this with you, might be quite informative for some of you.

It's a bit American sorry, but the principal is the same.

Does anyone still think DV only happens to plebs?

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow · 25/03/2011 16:57

For a long time I did Sad until I realised I was a victim myself.

I had no idea it was so common in 'nice' families.

SIgh. It's just that the well-off and educated abusers have more resources to help them cover it up - the poor have thin walls so the neighbours hear the screams and crashes, for instance. And the well off and educated tend to be a bit more 'creative' with the abuse tactics such as knowing how to hit in a way that doesn't leave marks.

sadly i have seen such opinions stressed here on MN Garlicbutter.

That DV only occurs in the lower classes. It is true that there is a link to financial hardship and increased violance at home.
But there is also an increase following major football games, not all football fans are abusers though, and not all abusers are football fans.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow · 26/03/2011 17:57

Hmmmm

I reackon the increase in domestic violence after major football games is related to alcohol consumption mainly.

I don;t think it is just alcohol. If you are a passionate supporter of a team, then there is going to be an adrenalin build up.

wonkeydonkies · 26/03/2011 18:29

believing that DV doesnt happen to "nice" people is almost as daft as believing it doesnt happen against men

What garlic said.
