Why am I such a cow?

Mother's Day's looming large.

I find it really difficult. My mum drives me round the bend. All those cards with messages about her always having "been there for you and being the best mum in the world" and all that? Well, she wasn't and she isn't and she's selfish and neurotic and controlling and manipulative and critical and perpetually disappointed in me and frankly, I'd rather not acknowledge it at all.

Am I a cow?

Get her a card with a picture of a cow on it.

I read those cards and spend ages finding one that doesn't sound like a load of bollocks.

Are you a bloke? On MN?!

SUCH a practical solution.....my husband came up with (mostly) the same suggestion.

Perhaps it's a bloke thing then.

My mother is all of those things as well and I have the same dilemma each year. She's never been much of a mum but will make an incredible fuss if I don't send her a card (or preferably take it there in person on the day). I usually just find the plainest one I can. The one's that say 'blank inside' can be useful :)

Sorry, should have added I don't think you're being a cow, just trying your best to deal with a difficult situation. I've had a lot of friends over the years with the same problem.

yup a nice neutral card works for me too, never anything gushy just Happy mothers day

seeing as shes a mother she can have one

but mainly cause I couln't be doing with the earache I would get if I didn't acknowledge the fact

God, I'd better get me off to Hallmark then!

In flower meanings white tulips stand for "forgiveness" so maybe give her a nice passive aggressive bunch of those?
