"Hrumph. I cancelled that golf weekend!"

Does anyone else think this is an inappropriate response from my DH after telling him that my mother's cancer doesn't require radiotheraphy for another 3 months? Not "Oh, that's a long time away" giving me the opportunity to pass on the "good" news that it wasn't a vigourous strain but complaining that he'd cancelled his golf trip unnecessarily. Not that I asked him to cancel it in the first place, I hasten to add.

Grrrr!

Selfish / self-absorbed in the extreme

PS - Great news abut your mum

NoOneInParticular · 17/09/2003 11:17

Thanks TC. DH claims that he said it because "it was obvious that everything was OK". Err, so why not say something like that to me?? Men!

What a terrible comeback from the DH! Couldn't just say 'whoops, sorry that was really rude and selfish of me wasn't it! That's great news about your mum darling - so what happens now, what does that mean exactly?'!!!!!! Shame he wasn't going fishing - then you could have slapped him round the head with a large cod! Wrapping a golf club round his neck might be a bit extreme!!!

The tumour was removed when she had a hysterectomy about 4 weeks ago and it was all contained. Cancer wasn't mentioned until 2 weeks ago. From what I can gather, this is a "belt and braces" approach to ensure she's clear.

I'm only doing this under a fake name to limit the chances of someone recognising me

I've often thought of wrapping a golf club round his neck TBH. Or leaving his bag by the dustbin by mistake one Friday morning...

I think it's only delayed because it's not urgent and other cases are more urgent - I don't think even my mum knows really.

And however he meant it, it wasn't the right response! He was very good right at the start of all this which is what made it really odd. Cancelling the trip off his own back in the first place for example - I wouldn't have asked him to do that in a million years. Maybe he has an evil identical twin...
