Men are really hard to buy presents for :)

So has anyone had any really good ideas for presents that worked well in the past? My DH is in his 40's, likes the usual kind of things, no unusual hobbies etc Most things he really wants he buys for himself I guess but he isn't very materialistic on the whole. I usually end up buying him things I think he needs like clothes etc but it would be good to give him a nice surprise this year.

We have an 18mth DD so will probably be staying at home (we might just about manage a meal out if the grandparents are willing!)

Thanks in advance!

Some type of red letter day thingy? For my dad's 65th I got him a tour along the Thames by RIB. He loved it.

What sort of budget?

When our DD was born I bought myself a necklace from uberkate.com.au (Russian circles personalized with our names / DD's DOB). DH turns 40 this week and I have ordered him a man's version (one 'living circle') with the dates of our wedding and DD's birth stamped on. Would yours wear something like that? Or use a jetting / cufflinks? (although it's an Australian company they ship to the UK or I'm sure there are local versions!)

Thanks everyone, I'll look into those ideas. Budget up to £100ish depending on what it is.
