What are you doing for Valentine's Day...?

Has Valentine's Day died? Do you still have romance in your relationship, post DC? Does marriage stop all that?

What is your Valentine's Day idea?

N.B. Valentine's Day is tomorrow!

I have decided to cook DH a 'romantic' meal for tomorrow evening (yes, I cook every night, but am trying to do something a bit more adventurous!). And have bought him a nice card.

well it does nothing for me whatsoever - and that is being truly honest!! My DH does regualryish sweet nice things and we have no money at the minute so I told him we are not to even do cards as just find it a waste of money when we could buy food with it.

Maybe we will have something nice for dinner - or maybe we won't Grin

Wordsonascreen · 13/02/2011 13:17

We were going to go out for dinner but its a dry day (live in ME) plus Dh is playing league football at 10pm Hmm so I'm having valentines day tonight

One pot Fay Ripley chicken
Kids in bed early
bottle (or three) of wine

tomatoesontoast · 13/02/2011 13:17

sorry to be a valentine bah humbug but I HATE valentines day - always have, always will. I hate all the pretence and the competitiveness. I can think of nothing worse than going to a restaurant full of couples holding hands and smooching. I also hate the way can make single people feel lonely & down

my valentines day will be like any other day of the year Grin

Wordsonascreen · 13/02/2011 13:18

dd chose the card and I've put sarcastic commentry on it

[romantic]

LadyInPink · 13/02/2011 13:38

I never buy a card - DH and i always make them - as they are so expensive and impersonal. He bought me flowers this week already so that was a surprise (you kind of expect them on the 14th) and i have made heart shaped cookies with DD and decorated the kitchen with heart shaped lights and balloons. We are going to have a romantic lunch whilst DD is at school (at home, not out)

I know people go on about how Valentine's day is over-rated and 'i'm not being dictated to when to celebrate my love blah blah blah' but so long as these people actually do show their OH they love them on another day then fine - each to their own, but don't slate me and call me a 'sheep' for celebrating. My DH and i love any excuse to show our love; this being one of them.(not having a go at any mners btw just relating what my rl friends think of it)

I've even bought my DD a little keyring for her school bag (pink heart) just because! She is also attending a Valentine's day disco at school which she will love but isn't sending any cards.

Lucyintheskywithdiazepam · 13/02/2011 13:42

Well, as DH will be working away, I plan to spend the evening with my second favorite big, dark hunk of gorgeousness.

My Rottweiler Smile

nickschick · 13/02/2011 13:45

Sweet F.A but ive bought the dog some heart shaped treats Grin.

Crawling · 13/02/2011 13:46

Well we usually do something but tomorrow I have three hospital appontments. Two are not nice, the other is our first scan Smile so I guess that will be a nice thing to do on valentines day. After all that I will be tired so we are going to celebrate next week nstead, go for a meal and a movie.

shinyshoes · 13/02/2011 13:47

see tomatoesontoast' post Grin

BelleDameSansMerci · 13/02/2011 13:47

I shall be sulking... Grin

"HBU" (HandsomeButUseless) is away so not expecting anything from him. I am having coffee with someone who admires me though so I shall at least expect a slice of cake (nothing to do with V Day, btw).

In the evening, I shall torture myself by watching some RomCom or other and will cry at the end.

I know how to have a good time!

nickytwotimes · 13/02/2011 13:47

we have never done valentines.

load of commercialised shite imo.

enjoy yourselves Wink

MommyMayhem · 13/02/2011 13:49

Wordsonascreen, is it dry tomorrow? Shit! I had forgotten about the Prophet's Birthday. Oh well, I guess we're staying in then Sad

maxybrown · 13/02/2011 13:52

no not at all each to theri own sheep! It just has done nothing for me since I was about 7!!

When DS is older sure i will tease him about valentines or some such, but he is just 3 so no idea Grin

We might make Daddy some love things tomorrow when he is at work, but I am ill and DS ill so not great all round.......we will see. Oh and homemade cards much nicer!

Wordsonascreen · 13/02/2011 13:55

[look on bright side]

(dh is back from work and has said hes not playing footall tomorrow so its pork chops for tea Grin )

happiestblonde · 13/02/2011 14:02

We went for an amazing meal last night and are going to go to the BFI then DP will cook on Monday but today I have food poisoning after last night and think I might hide on MN under a duvet for the forseeable future.

MommyMayhem · 13/02/2011 14:05

Oh dear, my DH won't be happy about Thursday as he's on Thu/Fri weekends at the moment. He missed out on all the holidays over Christmas and New Year as he was off anyway.

Oh well, I'll have to cheer him up with some great food. Any suggestions? What's everyone else got on the menu?

midtowner · 13/02/2011 14:05

Nothing - we will be on different sides of the Atlantic. We might exchange an email or text message Smile

LPO · 13/02/2011 14:09

Mommy I'm thinking steak (boy's favorite) followed by some sort of choc dessert.

OP posts:
maxybrown · 13/02/2011 14:15

I meant each to their own ladyinpink, NOT sheep - I think I meant to type no not at all do not htink of you as a sheep Blush as you were, back under my rock

MommyMayhem · 13/02/2011 15:23

Sounds good, LPO. I am also thinking steak. With homemade chips and grilled tomatoes, maybe.

mousymouse · 13/02/2011 15:23

nothing. just a normal monday...

1234ThumbWar · 13/02/2011 15:28

DH is cooking me a 'romantic' meal, but to be fair he cooks most evenings if he's home. No ingredients have been bought, so am anticipating a text during the day tomorrow.

We'll exchange cards, but not presents - anniversary is more important tbh.

We are quite lovey dovey, but I can be doing with paying for an overpriced meal, being stuck elbow to elbow with other couples and told to be romantic.

MommyMayhem · 13/02/2011 15:31

Are you single then mousymouse?

Mrsfluff · 13/02/2011 15:38

We don't really celebrate the valentine part as it is also our wedding anniversary :) Both working tomorrow, so will probably be a take away for tea. But yesterday my hub sent me out for afternoon and had arranged overnight care for our DD. Came home to a clean and tidy house, a candle-lit bath and a meal and pudding that he cooked. He must still love me lots, as he played Dolly Parton music - my fave, he loathes it lol. So feeling very loved/spoilttoday Grin
