Can anybody explain to me what the difference is between going out with someone or just seeing someone?

Especially if you can give a male perspective or ask your Husband, Partner, Cheers!

my latest understanding is going out means exclusive relationship.... ie boy and girl and no other.

seeing each other is more casual and not necessarily exclusive.....

HTH

If you are seeing someone you can also see someone else, apparently
If your going out with someone you are with that one person.
Seeing someone means you might be seeing someone else and they might be too.
Male view.

So basically "seeing someone" is a polite way of saying i'm going to still carry on pulling.
I see.

Are you seeing someone or going out with them?

fairyfly · 28/09/2005 18:52

I am going out with someone, it is "exclusive" hehe

Asking for a friend, she thought it meant they saw each other at the weekends and not in the week or in the daytime.
I wasn't convinced.

Seeing someone is casual, you can see other people, although in most situations I have been in like that neither person has bothered.

When you are going out you are boyfriend/girlfriend and usually most relationships go from 'casual seeing someone' to properly going out with someone.

That is how I see it!

fairyfly · 28/09/2005 18:59

Best tell her to keep her options open.

I mustn't be very modern as i'm not really into open relationships. Would like to see the man i was sleeping with chatting up others. But i suppose seeing each other may mean you only have eyes for each other when your together and mess about when your not.

Would NOT like to see him chatting up others

in my single days seeing someone was dates and a snog, no sex, going out with someone was exclusive leading to serious relationship - plus sex

Tinker · 28/09/2005 19:40

But a man could say he was "seeing someone" as a way of playing down that he was keen on someone

tegan · 28/09/2005 20:15

When I was younger if you were seeing someone you could have abit of nooky with other people but once you were going out that was it you were trapped.

munz · 28/09/2005 20:19

seeing some one = can see various other ppl is a casual arrangement,

going out = just u to, any others involveds mean cheating.

that's how my DH and his single friends see it as well - they're v careful his single friends to say only 'seeing' a girl- althou they all think it's not cheating if she lives in a diff post code to another girl! - no hope there!

MascaraOHara · 28/09/2005 20:19

sorry not read all the responses but around here

Seeing = early stages/still casual or just two people who are shagging

Going out = serious

fairyfly · 29/09/2005 13:50

Hmmmm, now Tinker has thrown a spanner in the works. Maybe this man is playing it down, especially to the " lads".

Also nobody goes straight into a relationship saying i want to go out with you for a very long time and be completely faithful. Maybe it is just a way of taking it slowly.

long, long ago- pre DP and kids, before the mundane-ness of everyday life and where everynight was a saturday night.... to me 'seeing' someone quite simply meant bedroom acrobatics. 'Going Out' with someone was exclusive. Dp is only the second ever man i have 'gone out' with. Have 'seen' enough however.
