Anyone done a dna test? Recommendations for where to get a kit online?

My 'dad' has said he's willing to do one which is a really big surprise. I didn't even ask and always assumed he wouldn't.

I'd like to buy a kit online but can't tell which of the companies are reputable. Any recommendations from anyone who has done this?

No idea where to get kits, but have you given it very careful thought? If he is not your biological father, what then? Are you fully prepared for the results?

I looked into it a while ago - to get arsehole ex off my back (he insists he's the father of my DS - despite DS looking like DP and it being a medical impossibility - DS would have to have been 46 weeks in the making!)

However the ones I found cost £150, and it's not that much of a priority for us right now.

So, I'm watching with interest, if you find a reputable one for under £150 please let me know!

Also I wonder if anyone knows - can you get a DNA test while protecting your child's identity? I don't want my ex to even know DS's name. He's of the psycho ex variety, and I don't want him to have any more information about me or my son than is absolutely necessary.

Hecate, I've had counselling about it all but the stumbling block to finding out was that I assumed 'dad' would never agree so I was surprised when he brought up the idea and said he was fine about it (and I believe him - long story). He said I can find out and I said I might not tell him if he doesn't want to know (it's just not that important to him as he has adopted relatives and thinks nurture is more important etc.)

So to answer the question, yes I feel very able to deal with the consequences thanks to the counselling.
