Not really sure where to post this but here goes.

It will seem really petty but has become quite an issue. Basically it's about which way round to hang the loo roll. I say it should have the end coming up and over the top but (D)H maintains it should hang down the back.

Which is the right way (if any)?

Surely changing it in other people's houses is an invasion of personal space?

DH used to be over the top, I used to be down the back. Now dd is 13, I'm just grateful if there is any, never mind which way round it is.

However, much more important, in the days of metal toothpaste tubes did you squeeze in the middle, or at the end?

My dm's take on it was that middle-squeezers were profligate money-wasters.

Actually, if you are a stander-upper it is up and over (to do with optimum pulling angle). Normal sitting-type people have it behind - the proper way.

Over the top and always white.

mamalovesmojitos · 10/11/2010 20:06

over the top - always

Hanging it down the back is the efficient way:

You push the entire roll against the wall, and tear, so you get a perfect tear. It is quick and easy for the efficient toilet user.

Hang it over the top, and you need to fiddle with the roll and use your hand to get that perfect tear.

You need to investigate both equally well, with a stop watch, and decide both on the length of time to make a perfect tear, and how many moves from sitting straight, one hand on each knee, till you have finished wiping. 3 times each, on both methods, and average the findings of both of you.

This is a serious matter, you will be conducting important research, so MUST come back and let us know how you get on.

Only THEN can you put this to the mumsnet jury.

I a quavering.

It should hang over the top

tigerchilli · 10/11/2010 20:14

Over the top - deffo.

PfftTheMildySpookyDragon · 10/11/2010 20:20

over the back!

My mother changes them round in other people's houses, it annoys her so much. I like the paper hanging against the wall, but I would never change a roll round because of it.

Cicatrice · 10/11/2010 20:23

Over the top. I worked as a chambermaid and that was how we were required to do it. (And fold to a point)

OFFS · 10/11/2010 20:45

Grin @ QuintessentialShadows.

I just wasted spent 10 minutes reading that bloody Wiki link!

Anniegetyourgun · 10/11/2010 20:58

I've got round this problem by leaving the loo roll unhung, on its side, on top of the cistern. Guess I'm a hopeless case.

Anniegetyourgun · 10/11/2010 20:59

Or should that be "on its end"? confused myself now.

aurynne · 10/11/2010 21:03

Whichever way it goes when I replace it... so by the laws of probability, will be 50% of the time over the top, 50% behind.

Honestly, I never ever thought anyone would make an argument about this.

joanne34 · 10/11/2010 22:59

over the top with little corners pressed in ! [Wink]

if im at someone elses house i have to change it too if its the other way ! ocd ! :)

joanne34 · 10/11/2010 23:01

joanne34 · 10/11/2010 23:02

panic over !

BelleDameSansMerci · 10/11/2010 23:05

Over the top (and always, always white).

Hanging down the back is just wrong.

Sparklerz · 10/11/2010 23:06

What are the reasons for having it hanging over the top? Does it make a difference?

joanne34 · 10/11/2010 23:10

you have to look for it if its down the back ! over the top just flows, you can pull and grab what you want ! :)
(am possibly taking too seriously ? )
