well, not defending anyone, but this is the 'news' section of the programme and I don't think the poll is done for fun

MmeLindt - that goes without saying! I just thought, actually, of all the things they could be doing a disservice to, at least this one is an eyeopening statistic and hopefully someone will take notice.

Playing devil's advocate, if this gets the message out that 97% of rapes reported to the police are genuine then that is a Good Thing. I would bet almost any sum of money that the majority of the people who saw the question and answer didn't realise that it was so high.

It doesn't make Matthew Wright more palatable or the presentation less crass, but I'm not sure getting-the-message-across-in-a-crass-manner isn't preferable to reporting-sensitively-but-message-going-unheard.

It isn't a "for fun" poll, just a fact related to whatever topic they are discussing next. I thought it was good, to show that the vast majority of rape allegations are true.

I really hope I misheard but I thought the dumbass on the far right of the panel said something about the woman having a choice to make and since she's married to him she should "grin and bear it" or words to that effect .

MW does present on a BBC London TV programme Inside Out and on that he is actually quite good - but in that prog he has no need to make inflammatory and idiotic remarks as it's more documentatry factual reporting style.
