Has anyone actually ended up in a relationship with someone they met online?

OP posts:

Yes, a number of times but most significantly with my ex. We were together for nearly 2 years.

Having said that, I've probably met over 150 people (for a drink/coffee) since I began using internet Sites and only about a quarter of them have really been 'relationship material'. So, it does happen but may take a while.

Why do you ask?

swoosie · 24/09/2010 19:15

3 friends of mine have met long term partners online, 1 actually got married this summer! I have heard of quite a few other stories of people finding love on these sites, tho am resisting major pressure from friends to join myself as still not too sure about it all Hmm

StudiousSal · 24/09/2010 19:33

I did, however I was with him for two years, until I found out he hadn't cancelled his subscription, and was trying to arrange meets with every woman who would e-mail, text him.

Hence he's my EX.... Grin

SimpleAsABC · 24/09/2010 19:38

Swoosie, I couldn't resist said temptation and have joined and been asked out.. Not too sure what I think about it all though!!

Yes. I'm married to him.

daisyj · 24/09/2010 20:22

Me too (not Conflugen's hubby, obviously). Met DH 7 years ago - didn't bother with anyone else, just emailed for a couple of weeks, talked a couple of times, met up and that was it. I do realise I was very lucky, though [smug emoticon].

pinkbasket · 24/09/2010 20:23

Kind of, mine was via the post and we are married now Grin.

SimpleAsABC · 24/09/2010 20:42

So I should stop being silly and just give it a go?

OP posts:
pinkbasket · 24/09/2010 20:50

You are not being silly. It is scary. Just be careful and let someone know where you are meeting and check in when you get home.

Bue · 24/09/2010 20:50

Yes, DH and I met online. His best friend also met his spouse online, as did one of my best friends, my aunt and my cousin. And no, we weren't all hopelessly undateable last chancers Grin

It really can be a great way to meet people you'd never come across otherwise.

SimpleAsABC · 24/09/2010 20:57

Thanks Pink :) there are a few things that worry me!! Safety is one and he's older (not that much).

And what if I turn up and he laughs?!

OP posts:
FiaGrace · 24/09/2010 20:59

He won't laugh and if he does, well then you know he's a knob and you'll be happy you didn't waste your time!

Seriously though, chat on line, chat on the phone, swap pictures..

Go for it

pinkbasket · 24/09/2010 21:01

I saw my blind date and was disappointed. He reminded me of someone who had a crush on my years ago and they both have the same name. We have been together for 14 1/2 years now and he has never disappointed since.Grin

SimpleAsABC · 24/09/2010 21:06

That's a nice story pink :D I don't exactly know what I'm worried about.. but I'm worried!

Squitten · 24/09/2010 22:51

I met my DH on a dating site - been together for 9yrs, married for 3, have one toddler and baby mk.2 due in December! Grin

Good luck!

memoo · 24/09/2010 22:52

I met DH online Grin

serafinacat · 24/09/2010 23:39

I met my DH online, plenty of fish.com to be exact... he's my soulmate, I'm happier than I ever thought I could be, and there's no way we would have met otherwise... Go for it, it's far easier to sort the wheat from the chaff online, for one you get to find out important questions that would take ages to find out, just by looking at their profile.. eg one question is do you want children? Helps enormously with compatability! Wink

ginnny · 25/09/2010 16:55

Indirectly. My best friend met her boyfriend online and she introduced me to his best friend. Its early days but I think we are a perfect match

Jenni363 · 25/09/2010 21:51

Yes I did! We just bought a house, our baby is due in 6 weeks and we are getting married in July 2011.

I could not be happier :)

Go for it!

aseriouslyblondemoment · 25/09/2010 22:00

yes it can happen,it did for me Smile

swedishy · 25/09/2010 22:09
