Rude Mother At The Park - Tight Over Banana

I was asking about mother and toddler groups. I don't know her, but we've spoken a couple of times and I've always found her weird with me. So on this occasion her little girl had run off, having presumeably eaten most of the banana. My little girl reached out at the banana in the woman's hand (only a tiny piece left). She hid it behind her back, said "Oh, you like banana too, do you?" with a "Tough S**t" expression on her face and a ridiculous smile to me. What sort of cow would begrudge a baby reaching out for a piece of wretched banana? What is wrong with her?

She has not taken to me from the outset, this woman, and I've tried to be overly pleasant so that I am the 'bigger' person in this, not lowering myself to being rude etc and possibly trying to prick her conscience because she is always off with me.

I know it's not that big a deal, and I'm hardly crying into my pillow about it, but this is not on. Is it?

Weight Watchers. sigh!

Oneday · 30/08/2005 21:57

Yes the diablo stuff is expensive, Janh. I don't drink it very often.

Funnily enough I got an old points guide and am meant to be using it to lose half a stone so I look nice in my too small dress for dd's 1st birthday party. I'm no good at prescriptive diets; I just say sod it and drink too much or eat the chocolate, whatever. It's only half a stone. No problem. In fact drinking less would probably shift it.

You're all gone to bed, aren't you? I will go to bed.

Keep misreading this thread title as 'Tights over Banana'. Am very confused.

Oneday · 30/08/2005 22:17

Tights over banana would have probably saved a lot of aggro.

actually, it makes me think of some suggestive remark about condoms. but that's me. deffo weird.

Oneday · 30/08/2005 22:26

well, my mum puts condoms over cut-back shrubbery shoots. Can't remember why. To stop them growing back? You see? That's where it all went wrong. Best to blame the parents, I always think

you're joking! coloured ones? seriously, tell me it's not true!

weesaidie · 30/08/2005 23:38

Just to comment on your post.

I can see where you are coming from, others might think you were being over sensitive but you are the one who knows this woman and I am sure you are perfectly capable of reading her. It was her attitude rather than the banana thing that seems crass to me.

It wasn't as if you 'expected' her to give dd a bit of banana just to be nice about it. And she clearly wasn't.

Don't worry about it though, life is a b*h sometimes!

I know u are talking about other things now but wanted to post.

Vaunda · 30/08/2005 23:50

Ok i have sat and read this posting with great interest and then discussed it wiht DH, He has no children of his own BUT is an excellent step dad and Uncle to our 2 nephews. He said Yes he would at least have asked the mum if she minded her child having the remaining piece of banana and if the answer was no she didn't he would have given it to thie child. After all kids are kids and always want a bit of what someone else has.

I too was a single mum for 3 yrs and during that time often took lil one to the park. i knew people to talk to but i didn't "know" them. We never had a problem with sharing the food, nibbles we had brought for our own children with others, at the end of the day thats what you do with kids isn't it?

Thanks wees and vaunda. Thanks. I feel a little vindicated.

When is it? I'm in Britain around Christmas but am having very glamorous varicose vein operation just before Christmas (ooh the thought!)

Will you fly over leaving les enfants behind?

(Glad you've cheered up Oneday!)

Janh · 31/08/2005 10:57

It's an hour later where gggl is, moondog

I'm glad you are feeling better this morning too, Oneday

caligula · 31/08/2005 11:34

Oh how have I missed this thread? Is Bananawoman superior or inferior to Tableclothwoman in the great Mumsnet hierarchy?

Janh · 31/08/2005 11:35

She certainly vies. I was thinking about her last night too, C

zippitippitoes · 31/08/2005 11:50
