Rude Mother At The Park - Tight Over Banana

I was asking about mother and toddler groups. I don't know her, but we've spoken a couple of times and I've always found her weird with me. So on this occasion her little girl had run off, having presumeably eaten most of the banana. My little girl reached out at the banana in the woman's hand (only a tiny piece left). She hid it behind her back, said "Oh, you like banana too, do you?" with a "Tough S**t" expression on her face and a ridiculous smile to me. What sort of cow would begrudge a baby reaching out for a piece of wretched banana? What is wrong with her?

She has not taken to me from the outset, this woman, and I've tried to be overly pleasant so that I am the 'bigger' person in this, not lowering myself to being rude etc and possibly trying to prick her conscience because she is always off with me.

I know it's not that big a deal, and I'm hardly crying into my pillow about it, but this is not on. Is it?

sansouci · 30/08/2005 21:37

it's not the banana, it's the nasty. totally understand. please don't fret.

Janh · 30/08/2005 21:37

My wine is nearly all gone...oneday, shall I pop to t'offie and get some for both of us?

Oneday · 30/08/2005 21:38

The offy's across the road, a five minute walk. I'm in 5th floor of a flat. I could take DD with me, she just woke up and I could possibly put her in her buggy and go with her. I could. If she stirs again I'll try the transfer.

Motherinferior's 'bananawoman' was probably so sick of her grouchy child that mother solidarity was her banana too far

what thread? Not me, I don't think? I tried writing before but changed my name because it was pathetic.

Yes, let's share the wine. Maybe Mumsnet should start up a kind of wine network, like Richard and Judy did. We'd all drink wines at the same time, and talk on Mumsnet about them. Are you enjoying the Rioja, Mud, do you like the Sauvignon Blanc, Dior? Do you see? Inspired, no?

Oneday · 30/08/2005 21:43

We'd all buy a case, mixed, through Mumsnet. And drink all the wine together. Oh, I am pleased. Is anyone else pleased with that, as a concept?

I like Merlot. I like Casillero Del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon and their other one. A three for 2 offer would be cost-cutting. If I could just use self control. I want to ask Mumsnet to set up a deal.

In fact, I like lots of wines. God I want some wine. Shall I just transfer dd? No. It's nearly 10. When do they close?

myturn · 30/08/2005 21:48

Stick some Shiraz in please.

sansouci · 30/08/2005 21:48

i like wine better than bananas, à propos de rien.

Oneday · 30/08/2005 21:49

Dior, have your Merlot. and go to the loo. You'll feel much better for both acts.

Love it - my random bottle of something Spanish from Sainsburys (£2.99, half-price) is now all gone - am open to anything else rich and red (I like that Diablo stuff too, oneday, but only when it's on offer)

Close at 10 I think. Be saintly and go to bed without tonight - you know you will feel better in the morning.

Oneday · 30/08/2005 21:50

yes, I like wine better than the B word too. That's a useful little phrase. Apropos de rien. Excellent.
Want wine. Can I be arsed? Should just wait till tomorrow. Damn it.
