How do people split up if are only just managing financially now.?
If we sold the house for two smaller houses evrn with a bit of equity that wd be more £ than the current mortgage and rent would be similar- i wdnt mind moving to smaller house say for me and children, but i know that our joint income then could not cover the cost of dh having somewhere to live - its been preying on my mind for some time- does anyone have any advice please?. ps I cant increase my salary at the mo and neither can he as there are cuts in both our jobs.

Do you have children? A parent with care would get a fair amount of benefits which boosts your income to a livable level, including help with child care if necessary, and housing benefit for rent.

A non-resident parent would be presumed to be working full time and only to need a one-bed flat and would either be able to cover their own expenses, or would also get help with housing benefit, up to the level required for a single person.

If you don't have kids, you have to fend for yourselves as two responsible and capable single adults.

Sorry - just spotted that you did say you have kids. Try www.entitledto.co.uk to see what help you both could get.
