DH always wants to do "day trips" and can't BEAR being at home

DH always wants to do "day trips" and can't BEAR being at home because he says it drives him crazy - agh but the constant trips out are (a) exhausting and (b) expensive and (c) dd is quite happy to sit at home doing jigsaws anyway. He wants to do a four-hour round trip to relatives for the day tomorrow and I just can't face it! I'm knackered! And I'm 8 months' pregnant!

He's got a month off when the baby is born and I don't know how he's going to cope being at home - he can't cope for a day of it.

im the same as him, cant stand being stuck in the house all day. as i am sahm i obviously cant afford expensive visits every day, so we do things like go to the beach, park or local (free museum). would he be happy with anything like that?

when i was 8 months pg with ds3 dp used to take ds1 & 2 out for long walks round local nature reserve or to the beach and i stayed in with a cup of tea! then all they wanted to do was sit watching telly or something when they got back cos they were so knackered. no need for you to go every time

erm.... 'local (free) museum' makes more sense

put your foot down. sorry but 8 months pregnant and 4 hours in a car does NOT sound like something i'd do. it's HIS problem, not yours and dd's. tell him to go for a long walk.

Good idea! Get him to go out with dd while you stay at home with your feet up!

I think that probably is a good idea to let him go on his own and leave you peacefully at home.

Exactly, aloha! DH is like that - except not as extreme - and he happily takes DD (2.2) out whilst I get a nap - I'm 24 weeks along - or catch up on housework.

He is quite happy to go without me TBH but it just seems like madness to have to get out all the time. He does take her out a lot to the local 'attractions' but he's been to them all so often that now he always wants to travel further afield.

I just don't know how we will survive a month with him at home!

It's definitely meeting HIS boredom needs and not HERS!

That's pretty unreasonable, mp, especially considering your pregnant state AND the expense. think i'd keep a tab of how much is spent on transport for these 'days out' and present it to him at the end of the month. tell him you'll compromise - put the money you'd spend in petrol into a holiday fund and go 'far afield' once a year on a big break instead.

also, use the power of DD, if she can talk. DH's dad was like that, and DH's elder brother was so worn out he finally told him, 'Go yourself! I had a hard week at nursery' when he was about 4 years old.

My dh is the same - but I have put my foot down at times. Dh means well - want to make up to the children for being at work all week. However, imo doesnt give him time to do reading, counting and just getting to know them in a safe environment. DH still does day trips but now know not to bother trying to plan unless he has had some quality time with kids.
