Is it possible to start a thread and get some advice but them make the thread dissapear ?

Yes I did this last week and then reported my own post and asked for Mumsnet to delete it which they did very quickly.

can't you just name-change for it or change a couple of the facts?

Otherwise press the report link on the right of one of your posts and ask MN to delete the whole thread for you.
