Well, when she stirs her tea for what feels like 45 minutes clanging the spoon against the side of the cup over and over and over and asks every one "are you alright" 80 times a day it can get some what jarring, however i was gracious, and calm
had to breeeath and push through my bottom on several occasions..but i survived it.

They were intolerant of ds, so i had to keep ds away from them.
If they got in the pool i had to coax him out because they didnt like him splashing.

They showed no interest in him to such an extent that there was just no conversation with him at all.

They cant stand me, but he is just a kid and he is their only gc.

ANYHOOO, here i am, there were no arrests for violence or anything.

It was a joint brilliant idea. We have been away with them before and it was fine because we would go out somewhere for the day and split up, meeting up at tea time.
this time they wanted us all to stick together....nonononono.

we treated ourselves, mil had eye cancer last year i had my 5th mc end of last year SO we decided we needed it.

they want to go again in 4 years when pil retires. i am seriously not wanting to go.

It was starined and uncomfortable and really hard work for me, trying to keep ds away from them.

How awful that they were like that with your son. I definitely wouldn't go away with them again.

he doesnt notice i dont think and if i point out my observations he thinks im making something of nothing.
although he was very irritated by them quite allot this time.

My nightmare holiday was booked without consultation by MIL 12 months ago - thus effectively denying us our usual defence of 'oh no what a shame we already have something arranged that week'. DH refused to grow a pair politely decline hence the torment awaits. And it is in sodding Norfolk. I might cope if it were somewhere forrin with a heated pool

ILs think we get on really well - this is only due to superhuman self-control and fakery on my part (instead I take it out on DH after every visit). Sigh.

I really liked my Ils but wouldn't have dreamt of ever spending more than 72 hours with them.

Ah moondog - I've hoisted myself on my own petard by insisting that DH manages his parents and I manage mine. Unfortunately he reverts to sullen Kevin and Perry behaviour when in his parents' orbit. My parents don't actually take any managing mind you as they are at the other end of the spectrum and insist on giving us money and looking after our kids for us on a regular basis. Yin and Yang I guess

My one and only holiday with my ILs was a week in a shed a rather basic, very cold cabin, middle of nowhere (in Scotland), booked by future DH and his parents, 3 months after we started going out in 1994. His parents don't drive so there was none of this 'splitting up for the day and meeting up in the evening', we were stuck with them almost every day apart from 2, when we had day trips to Edinburgh and Glasgow. I'd met them twice at the time it was booked and they seemed OK but it was booked 13 months ahead, for April 1995 (so plenty of time to fall out see how much they relied on their Son in those months!)

We stupidly decided to tell them that we were getting engaged during the week away, thinking that they'd be happy about it. That news went down like a lead balloon and set the scene for rocky IL relations after that. Funny how they've never talked about that holiday since! Never having another holiday with them again!

A friend of mine has been living with his ILs for SIX MONTHS. They are quite hard work according to him. Surely getting a rental has to be worth the money. How the frick has he managed that?

My mum and dad are staying with us for 6 weeks. Two weeks down and I'm very twitchy. I think beyond a certain age, co-habiting with elderly relatives just doesn't work.

Sparkletastic - my parents have just returned from a week in Norfolk with my boys (aged 6 and 3 years). They went to beWILDerwood and dinosaur adventure park and had a great time. They both involve alot of walking (of which it would be MOST unfair to take the outlaws) - so would that be an option as a day out?

Is it a park resorts you are going to?

can also get the dinosaur tickets via tesco clubcard - and if there wasn't enough for them to go as well....

I don´t like my ILs.

Husband finds them hard to get on with also.

He had 2 days with them & that was enough.
