Present for mother in law's birthday??
She's an incredibly practical type of woman (or at least gives the impression), frugal, lives on a small holding.
I'm sure there's things she mentioned she'd like etc, but i don't remember what they are! I don't have much money either, but i really want to get her something thoughtful or something that will at least look like i cared to. Little one has made the card, but the gift is a lot harder!
My partner is also getting a present which i suppose is from all of us, but i just feel something extra would be good.
Flowers seems a little uncreative although that's all i can think of.

Help!!

What is the present your DP/DH is getting? Flowers might actually complement it nicely.

i think he's getting a collection of traditional preserves or some old fashioned liquers, he hasn't decided which yet.

lol, most gifts she gives us are things she's grown in her garden and fresh eggs etc, wellies (really) we live in the city! I can't match that.

Both ideas sound lovely :). How about getting flowers, but you and LO decorating a vase or something for them? You could get a clear glass one and some paint and ribbons, within limits, LO could get involved in it. It's creative, simple, and definitely possible within a budget :)!

What about new wellies for her.

BelleDameSansMerci · 06/08/2010 21:10

How about a small goat? Grin

avariceandlatinos · 06/08/2010 21:58

lol!

More seriously (because I feel guilty about the goat comment) could you get her seeds or a small fruit tree for her small holding? Although that might seem a little self-interested if you usually get the benefit of the produce.

Nope, stick with the goat (who will double as a lawn-mower; waste disposal unit; and a curry if she doesn't like it...

Maybe have a look on some gardening websites for a set of tools (had trowel, fork etc) or an outside apron?

A door mat with friendly message, one of those "I'm in the back garden" signs you can put on the front door, a (cheap-ish) piece of outdoor furniture?

I'll keep thinking....
