Hi, wondered if anyone knows this - my friend's ex (honestly not me) has lost his job and is doing the odd day here of work. He is trying to get a new job without success and has stopped paying maintenance.

She is the meantime is desperately needing the money he previously paid her. Can she get any money from him now he no longer has a job? Will benefits make up the deficit or will she now no longer have any maintenance?

It depends on the legal settlement, but basically it will probably be a percentage of his income, whatever that may be. If he is not earning, he can't pay. She should check her tax credits/ benefits situation anyway because this is not normally influenced by any maintenance payement. HTH

so if he loses his job she doesn't get any maintenance? I thought tax credits would make up the difference but I was obviously wrong.

no if he's lost his job and he's on benefits she'll be awarded £5 a week.....regardless of number of children.

Why would ctc make up the difference, maintenance is neither here nor there as far as they are concerned it's not an income.

£5 a week will be paid out of benefits if he has no job.

I got stuff all through CSA when ex lost his job. Which was slightly less than when he was working..
